Fires in San Diego

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Just checking in. We're fine here. It never got closer than 3 miles away, and now it's about 15 miles from us. It's a terrible disaster, and I feel very blessed to be okay. No damage other than some minor wind damage. Knocked the blooms off some Brugs and tipped pots over so that branches broke. They'll all live to bloom again someday.

Community spirit is very strong here when the chips are down, and they've even had to turn some help away because they had so many local volunteers.

Praying for all those people that have lost so much. If you've seen the news footage, you've probably seen what heroes our firemen are. They've worked so hard, in terrible life threatening conditions. I pray they'll be safe, and that those that were injured by the fires have a full recovery. Many of our police and sheriffs dept. have also risked their lives to keep people safe. They rock!

I'm so happy to see you post Mary. I've been thinking of you tonight.
I was told this morning that you were ok but didn't know what might have changed during the day.
Thank God your home was spared and you are all safe.
I watched on the news tonight the total devastation that the fires have caused and it is so sad.
Will keep everyone who is in the path of these flames in my prayers tonight and hope that they can soon put out the fires.
And yes, all those firemen are heroes. Without them so much more would have been lost.
Stay safe Mary.

Good to hear from you, Mary. We're all glued to CNN and watching in disbelief! I can't even imagine what it would be like. I've been through hurricanes, but I think the fires are worse.

I have a friend out there that's a firefighter and I've been praying for him and all of you.

Be safe!

My prayers are with all of you. Hope everyone stays safe. Be careful breathing around all that smoke too! Also watch your pets they get breathing problems too :) We have family in S. Cal as well, thankfully they are safe.

Thank goodness you are OK, Mary! It is so scary. I feel so badly for all those people. I still remember when we had the big fire here in the Oakland hills and I watched it come down the hill towards us. It was so scary!

Thanks for letting us know you are okay, Mary. It's hard not to remain glued to the TV at times, expecially knowing there are friends that are affected by the fires. Stay safe.

We're giving out free breathing masks to anyone that came by work this week. The soot and ash have made air quality bad. I hope this crisis is over soon and everyone can start to rebuild. The fires still rage in some places, but the winds have died down so there's a good chance of getting control now.

Oh Gosh.. I saw the news this morning that bodies were discovered in Poway CA.. I got a chill that went to the bone.. How sad. It is awful.. So good to see your post Mary! This is terrible.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

It made our local news last night too, ZZ. I shudder to think.
Still thinking about everybody affected.

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

Mary, I'm glad you and your family are safe. I too thought of you when we learned of the fires raging in San Diego County. It's hard to comprehend that anyone would deliberately set these fires. I hope people heeded the warning to evacuate. I remember the Oakland hills fire all too well and the large loss of life it caused.
