A nice lady sent me these big leaves for a night blooming cerus (can't spell it)...........does anyone know how they should be started by leaves............should I cut the leaves as they are so large??????
Thanks
Need a little propagation help, por favor?
I had hoped that someone with more experience than I would answer, but this is the way I was told to do it. I cut my sections into 6" or 8" lengths and let the cuts dry for about a week or so. I then pot them in potting mix with extra perlite added for better drainage. They could all be planted together in a larger pot or seperately into smaller 4" pots. Water very sparingly until they form roots so that they don't rot

That's what I did with mine and they all 3 of them rooted nicely....I even forgot one of the cuttings for 3 weeks and it started to grow sitting there on the shelf!!!
i just stuck about 3 inches of it in soil and gave it filtered light for about 2 weeks and the rooted. i made sure the soil was damp. they are growing real nice today.these wre the instructions onalee gave me when i bought mine
Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!
Hello gessiegail. I also have a night blooming cactus in my collection. I was given a piece of leaf about 7" long and 3" wide. In the 10 months I have had it, the leaf has grown numerous other leaves and is now in a large basket with very big leaves. I found that it is brittle when moved and when a piece broke off, I planted it and now it has leaves. I am waiting for flowers. Hopefully this year ??? It seems to grow from any sort of piece so try cutting one leaf and see how it goes. I don't know the name of mine but am posting a pic so you can see if it is same as yours. The brown mark on leaf in picture is where I bumped it in repotting.
Gee, thanks.............the lady sent me 4 leaves about 8" long each..............they look exactly like your more juvenile leaves.............this is fantastic help............I am very excited to start one..................thanks 77sunset!!!!!!!!
No worries gessiegail. I am waiting for the day when the cactus gets large enough to come in the window nearby. I read that the flower at night have a very nice perfume. Happy day
