hoya cheng mei

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Has anyone heard of such a hoya or if it goes by any other name, the leaves look different the the hoyas I've seen. I'll try to post a picture later.

Thanks for any possible leads.

Hi ric from my understanding it's in the pottsii family. I love the thickness of the leaves.

Yes, I have that one as well. It is like a very thick leafed pottsii. Mine seems to have a virus or something as it's leaves get all blotched up at times.

Hi Ric, this is a shot of our Hoya pottsii "Chiang Mai" which flowered recently, it has very glossy new growth. I think there must be different spellings of this one too. I hope this throws some light on your query.

Oh, I love that!

Wow...that has a LOT prettier leaves than mine. Mine are more round...not such pronounced veins, and lighter green.
Darn...maybe if I could get mine healthier, it would start looking like that.

Thanks for the ID confirmation, It is an attractive hoya! Roy thanks for the photo, very nice and healthy plant you got there.
Hoya pottsii 'cheng mei' it is.

Is Roy's plant what yours looks like Ric? If so, then I think mine is something else that was mislabeled. Ha. Wonder how that ever happened. Must be a first. ;-D

Unfortunately, there are a couple of clones of H. pottsii 'Chaing Mai' (many spellings of that, too) running around....it IS a lovely hoya in my opinion...whatever clone it is!!!!

Do you think , my NOID hoya is H. pottsii 'Chaing Mai' ? or maybe some kind of

Beautiful bloom Roy.

Sigh - another to add to my wish list....

Thanks Maykela and everyone for the comments on my plant. Looking at the leaves and veins it could well be the same plant, I suppose to be absolutely sure you'd have to wait for it to flower.

OK...here is a picture from a couple years ago that I took of mine when I got it. (It since almost died & I have just small plants that I started from cuttings when I saw it was going). You can see the virus-like condition I was talking about on those bottom leaves.

Here it is compared to one of my regular pottsiis. You can see it is larger and the leaves are very thick. More like obovata leaves.

Marcy, virus or not! Love it! :)

Hmmm... I got a hoya through a trade called Hoya parasitica var. citrina. When I looked it up mostly all I could find was a reference to "Chang Mai".

I now get the feeling I have something COMPLETELY different - mine has thin, but stiff, leaves that are huge. Oh well, another surprise on the way I guess!

I can't figure out what this hoya is either, I had originally contacted Roy because I thought it might be the same as his....not so after seeing the flowers on his. And it isn't merrilli (which was on the label)

I have never seen a pottsii that had pink in the flowers, and the flowers on my plant were a pale pale pink with the darker pink in the centers. It probably looks the most like Maykela's - the leaves are thin but stiff, curve up more at the edges than under, and there is alot of silver speckling. The grower thinks there was a mix up, probably at the greenhouse of his supplier. I haven't heard back from him yet.

Not sure how many of you go to HoyasRUS, because this was posted there too. Chris couldn't say for sure what it was either.

here are the flowers, they were VERY strong smelling and lasted maybe 2 days. Most of the buds blasted.

This is another one of my H. potsii "Chiang Mai" plants, It has very lush green new growth and quite large too.

Marcy, yours looks like "Chiang Mai" to me, maybe just different growing conditions from Roy. I've had very thick, smaller and lighter green leaves in exposed conditions, and large, thinner dark green leaves in shade.
Pottsii is also very variable from clone to clone.
