What's up with the calyx?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I noticed Brugie's post about "fried Calyx" and I was wondering if it was just mine.. wonder what's causing it?

Back up for one second and forget about the calyx.
Who is that brug? On my monitor, you would not believe the lavander undertones I'm seeing. Is it really that shade???
Uh, fried calyx. Is it still hot there? Dry? Dramatic change in weather?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Don't know about you, but we've had drought/dry air conditions all summer, think this is why calyx drys(fries).

Indy_Lily;
So does my monitor, the Lavender undertone is heavenly! What's her name? And yes I see the yellowing of the "sheaths". Hmmmm.....

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

what a pretty brug !

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Good, Lily!
Actually, on my monitor, it's not undertones, the lavander speaks loudly!
And, um, ZZ, where are you!?! You cannot post something like this and run away!!

North Augusta, SC(Zone 8a)

I also had to look closer when I saw the color!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

ZZ must have done it in purpose, awaiting until all our keyboards are soaked with saliva before ZZ let us in for more info. lol, lol.

North Augusta, SC(Zone 8a)

Lily, as a true plant addict, when I read the word saliva, my brain saw it as Salvia....then tried to figure out you could soak a keyboard with Salvia! LOL~

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Tehehehe,
Is there a cure for our ailment? lol

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

You know, Alice, I read it as Salvia too. :)
And, there is no cure, Lily. That's why we're here, to be surrounded by enablers. :)

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Ooooh, and that gives us all the warm and fuzzy feeling inside. lol

She might have fried calyxes, but her form is sure nice. I really believe that a lot of us had such strange weather this year that things just didn't grow right. I don't know about all of you, but I'm looking forward to a better year next year. I don't think it could be much worse, anyway.

Salvia-ating..

LOL Nah, it's a sunrise pic with no flash.. I don't think it's really that lavander.. it is a tiny bit though.. I compared it to Rosamond and Butterfly.. but it's wilted right now, so I will get a pic later.
It's Brenda Delph's (Tiara x Susanne) X Earth Angel.. Go figure, color like that from Earth Angel? Ya got me!
But thank you everyone for your kind words. I appreciate it.

Edited to add:

No, Felicia, our weather has cooled off weeks ago.. it's really perfect, almost too cold for brugs! Slows everything to a crawl.. but the blooms last for a week or more! I love that part.

That's funny Alice, I did the same thing. I was wrinkling my nose trying to picture what a salvia-soaked keyboard looked like and why you would want one until I re-read it.
Nice brug ZZ. :)

North Augusta, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, at least I'm not alone and not as impaired as I thought.

They are gorgeous blooms ZZ. I think it was the a.m. lighting and the "blue" blacktop from the street, giving a lavendar hue..Those keyboard soaking salvia are pretty, too.. ;)

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

She is a big, fluffy one, isn't she? :)

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

She's a pretty one, looks like a puffed up pillow. Big blooms?

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

ohhh I hope I get one with color like that. I have some that are from Brenda that are
Butterfly x (Tiara x Susanne) x Earth Angel. They are just little babies still though. Yours is pretty.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Beautiful flowers and form, ZZ. Wish I could help with the answer to why your Calyx has dried. So far, I have not had that happen to any of my brugs.

I notice a few brugs I have get them frequently fried and it is not even hot here. I think it is a genetic flaw in some of them. I hate the look. The flower part of yours Joyce is so foo foo. I love that look.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

It sure is a beauty, ZZ!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I got a true picture tonight.. this is almost exact. I wish I knew about this setting on my camera a few months ago.. but it takes that long to figure them out sometimes!

edited to add: There are all 3 phases of the blooms in this pic.. on just starting one fully open and one finished!
