Elephant Ears

Garfield, AR

I didn't know elephant ears bloomed! I've got three blooms on this plant that been planted for a year.

But of course! That's a Xanthosoma bloom, but my Alocasias bloom regularly; how else could I breed with them?

Well I'll admit I was surprised to see mine all bloom this year too. I'd kept all mine in pots for the last few years (didn't have a yard before this year), so I was shocked to see all the plants in the ground start blooming this year. If you have several, you might even try cross pollinating them - I'm going to give it a shot next year. I gathered the seeds from one of mine and all but one grew into new babies. I'll plant them all next year I suppose :)

I don't know about yours, but mine smell really good when they bloom.
