Diff color Brug

San Antonio, TX

Have this brug growing the light pink flowers but it has this green branch growing out of it that looks very different. It's coming from the same brug as u can see in the first pic. It's green all the way to the top and is almost the same height as the original brug. It hasnt flowered yet but Im wondering why it's green and not wooden looking like the other one. Sure would like to hear from someone about this...........

mine did that too... its just another shoot. i'll bet it grew faster than the original plant is growing.... thats how mine was. it is green cuz it is new wood i think. also, it could be grafted, and one piece just came up.... i think the first suggestion is the most probable

Usually the new growth on my plant is green in color, and as it gets older, it turns to a grayish brown color. As diehrdsouthrnr said, the green shoots grow at an alarming rate, and before you know it, they will produce flowers.

Congratulations Anaid, that's exactly what you want. Those basal shoots will make a taller, bigger plant very fast. If winter comes too soon, one or both of those will make good cuttings. :)

If you like the look of standards, those basal shoots grow straighter and taller before producing a "Y". If you are interested in growing standards, let it get to the "Y" stage, cut the stem at ground level and root.

Bettydee: if i cut it and root it will the place where I cut it grow again in the spring or just give the nutrient to the brown wood color branch? Im glad I finally (even though unknowingly) did something right with these brugs.

Anaid, the mother plant will send out new growth from several areas. Which branch were you planning to cut? If you plan to cut the green one in order to turn it into a standard, the longer you leave it on the mother plant the faster and larger it will get. I would wait until it "Y"s.

I will do that
