Alfalfa "tea" good fertilizer?

Columbia, MO(Zone 5b)

I read somewhere that alfalfa "tea" was a good fertilizer for houseplants. I know that people make manure "tea" but I really do not want that in the house. How would I make alfalfa tea and is it worth the trouble or should I just rely on the boxes of fertilizer that I can pick up at wal-mart?

I know I've seen some threads on the Organic Gardening forum about how to make alfalfa tea. It is a good organic fertilizer.

Thanks! I will go look there.

I use alfalfa tea on my outdoor plants and it's great! I wouldn't ever use it on inside plants as it is quite stinky! (At least the way I make it.) I would say that if you could stand the smell for a day or two, it is waaaaay way better than chemical fertilizer.

If you don't find something in the organics forum, I can tell you how I make it. Also there are lots of threads about it on the brug forum, I think started by mavierose.

Here's the thread I think I was talking about. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/433894/

Thanks art-n-garden! I went right over there. That is a LONG thread with such good information. I noticed that there were a lot of links on it too. Sort of like a treasure hunt. I have read through the thread but have not explored the links yet. Looks like you need to use fertilizer in addition to the alfalfa. Does alfalfa just serve as a kind of catalyst for the fertilizer?

You're welcome, it is like a treasure hunt! Such good information all over it. Well, I remembered that part about using fertilizer as well, once I went back and found that thread. Lol, I think you can use it by itself too. I guess I should reread that thread! Let us know how it goes!
