Can someone please ID this herb? It has little purple flowers, and a nice scent.

Could it be Mexican Oregano? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2586/

Maybe rock rose? Can you get a better picture of the flowers?

Sorry, most of the flowers are drying up now, and prob time to trim it down for the winter..

Could it be one of the semi-woody salivas, a Mexican sage, perhaps?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

I've grown Mexican Oregano (although I don't have one this year -- even in my most protected corner, it's not hardy for me), so that's the first plant that came to mind when I saw your photo. Do the photos and description on the PF link not match up well with your plant?

Now, if that photo could just be scratch 'n sniff, we'd have the ID in a new york minute! :-)

I compared the flowers to the pf pics, and they do resemble some kind of sage, either mex sage, autumn sage or cherry sage. getting close to solving it, thanks.

OK... The reason I asked again about the mex. oregano was to see what you thought was different about your plant, figuring that whatever feature you thought didn't match up would give us another clue. As Dr. Suess might say, the best way to find out what somthing is, is to find out what it is not! Does it smell like anything in your spice cabinet?

Is this the mexican sage you were looking at? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/128710/

If so, take another look at the foliage... the leaves on your plant seem very different.

The foliage on Salvia greggii (autumn/cherry sage) seems like a closer match, but I can't tell if the leaves on your plant grow in little whorls around the stem the way the PFphotos of S. greggii seem to show.

The good news is that, in your zone, it is probably hardy regardless!

Yeah, I think its a woody salvia of some kind. Probably a perrenial in your zone.

The leaves on my plant seem smaller than your pics. flowers are pink or light red

I thought you said the flowers were purple on your plant, sowmo? They look pinkish in your photo, but color balance can be tricky with purple flowers.
