Was out on the Eastern Valley butterfly trip today. Lots of good butterflies but this one was the one I was after.

Blue Metalmark (Lasaia sula)
beautiful and what a fantastic closeup pic. You can se e the individual tufts of hair on the back. Are these a rather rare species? I've never heard of them before.
What a gorgeous color, great shot!
What a beauty and love those green eyes!
Gorgeous!! And look how furry it is!!
Doesn't that fur just make you wish you could pet it? Sooooo pretty! Me want! Me want!
Blue Metalmark -- WOW.
Great shot - thanks for sharing.
Thanks ya'll. Yes it is rare...had only been seen at Laguna Atascosa - up near the marshy area...but lately they seem to be coming out. One was spotted at Falcon State Park which is a good 150 or so miles west. Go figure!!!
So far nobody knows what its larval host plant is...thoughts are that it is screwbean mesquite...but nobody knows for sure. If we ever get a photo of one ovipositing it will be a million dollar photo :o) well, a million ooohs and aaahhs in butterfly circles.
