does your's produce seed? mine just dropps the buds the next morning

Beautiful! I'm envious .. my Confederate Roses had such a bad time this Summer with lack of rain, they are about 3 weeks behind yours .. I'm worried they won't bloom before the first frost!

My CR has been blooming for the past 2 weeks, X, and I don't think we've gotten much more/less rain than Summerville. I did water the thing when it showed obvious distress during the rainless summer (and it did!), so that may be a factor. We haven't pruned this guy back for the last 3 years, so it's 20' tall now---quite spectacular---but shading too many other things, so it's got to be whacked come the winter. Watering during stress may be the difference in bloom time. Who really knows?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Diehard that's a no on seeds.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

darn... i heard about someone getting seeds from a double and having very diverse outcomes

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Mine gets tons of seeds. I do remember pruning off the seed pods after the blooming is over. Perhaps the early flowers are sterile.

As far as I know, the seedlings are pretty true to the parent plant. Over the years I have had a couple of little ones come up and flower.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I got seeds on mine too. My CR always started off with singles and went on to doubles. Here is a pic of last year.

Mine is the same as Ardesia's. I don't pay too much attention to it, but it usually has a couple seedling come up each year. I just dig them up and give them away. Mine's in full shade and blooming it's head off.

I finally got a bloom .. they are half the size they were last year!

Drat the drought! Sorry your plants are suffering.

We have, once again, had a good rain; 3" over the past two days. I have noticed our Confederate Roses are even larger than previous years. It has to be the water.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Well they are kinda cute .. like little miniatures.

Well, strike that earlier post about whacking the CR back. I have been informed that the Hibiscus mutabilis is "far too pretty to whack". This from the significant wife who argued like hell with me about planting it in the first place years ago! Go figure. No problem. All it means is that I have to dig up huge clumps of Salvia 'blue spires' and aesclepias and move them to more sunny exposures. Easy for her to say---she just "supervises"! And to think I actually ENCOURAGED her interest in gardening!!! No good deed goes unpunished...

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

mine bloomed in the middle of sept. for some reason, but now it bloomed again 2 weeks ago along with it's wife, and is still blooming. but the more they bloom, the smaller the flowers

Johns Island, SC

Whoops! "blue spires" Salvia in my previous post is really "Indigo Spires". Brain fart...happens to the elderly and infirm...you'll see!

Stock up on the depends before you can't find the store any more.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

OUCH lol

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH SNORT GASP HAHAHAHAH
(if you couldnt tell, i thought i was funny... and in hyped up on halloween sugar)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Oops. somebody got censored.......:-))))))

Anyhow, some of us old folks can be funny can't we kiddo?

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

yeah y'all are a hoot!

Johns Island, SC

Think it was me that got censored by the Garden Nazi's, Core. I'm entering negotiations with them now to determine "lines of demarkation" as to what is acceptable and what is unacceptable. Maybe everyone else on this site "gets it". I don't yet. (I'm new here). I used the dictionary as my guideline. Apparently, that's not acceptable. Don't expect a rational answer, but if I get one, I'll be sure to post it!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

There is actually an automatic "reader" that goes through all the posts and throws out those with certain words that are perceived to be "bad". I too have been censored.

It is funny, I am often offended by things I read in DG but when that happens I just unwatch the thread and that's it - because it is unacceptable for me to force others to accept my values.

Johns Island, SC

You'd make a lousy fascist, Ardesia!!! But now that I've been informed that the ruling principles on DG are "subjective", I'll be more careful in how I express my thoughts. Automatic "reader, eh? Let's see how smart it is...fece happens, instead of...you know. Scat also happens, I've seen it, right in my backyard. Guarantee someone, somewhere, will take offense to this observation, for whatever unknown subjective reason. Like you, if I find something personally offensive, I just click off. MY responsibility, no one else's. It's always worked for me.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL

Johns Island, SC

Guess the subjective powers and their super program missed this post...it didn't get "censored", although the thoughts were identical. It's a common problem with subjective "thought control" mentalities. There's too many "free spirits" out there to hope to control, but bless their little controlling hearts, they keep trying to protect us from ourselves! I will be careful in any future posts (or DMails!!??), so you may see some "creative" expression to avoid the wrath of Big Brother... I think we've worked it out...but when you deal with "subjective" reality, you never know...

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

LOL, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean people aren't after you.

True dat, Core! But with age and experience, somehow your (note the spelling)understanding/perspective of "things" change over time. In such subtle ways you're (note the spelling) not even aware it's happening. And sometimes a cigar is really just a cigar... (Psych major through graduate studies. Behavioral Psych, not Abnormal Psych, but had to study both). And sometimes you can get in over your head... All part of the learning experience, Core...

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

Typing not my thing. LOL.

Johns Island, SC

Credits, Core! Quick fix! I'm impressed! (But was impressed before...which is why I even bothered to respond...).

Johns Island, SC

That wasn't a "typo" Core...that was a "careless thinking" thing. A smart-hineyed response (reckon that will get past Big Brother)!. There's a marked difference to people who actually read these posts for CONTENT over form... Most of us do and bypass typos, I think...but could be wrong. Typing ain't my thing either. In fact, when I was in school, only girls took typing, so I wouldn't take it (I'm not a girl). Bad mistake! But yet another example of how your perspectives change as you age...
