Salvias, etc. at the National Arboretum

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

The topic of salvia came up over on the Cottage Gardening forum, so I mentioned that I would go over to the arboretum to snap some photos of the great display that they are putting on right now. I only live seven miles from the facility, so I went down there this morning when I had a few minutes. My apologies for the poor photography and lack of labeling, but wanted to at least post these shots for those who might be interested.

Miscellaneous shots of the Herb Garden. Note the selection of scented geraniums in all of the terracotta pots.

The label in this container said "Bellyache Bush" - Jatropha gossypifolia, but that may not be the correct ID for the plant in the photo. Anyone have any other guesses on what this plant is?

Here is one last shot of salvia to wrap things up.

I also took photos inside the bonsai exhibition, but will load those tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for playing...

Those are outstanding, Wrightie! Thanks for posting them.

I have no idea what any of the names are, but the reds are just to die for. Why the plant breeders compressed the red ones to make those dumpy, squat salvias they use for bedding, I'll never know.

you technically could get arrested, then we would all have to come and and bail you out :)
...take a deep cleansing thought and clear your mind :) they are really gorgeous!

I wonder what the tall fuschia ones are in the intro photo and photo 9?

I don't think this is #18

but then what is #18 it is really beautiful?

THANKS for the pictures!

Hmmm... interesting, Wind. I was going to go check PF for Bellyache Bush later on. I must say, that was the dominant plant in the container and the position of the plant marker sure made it look like it was the ID for the plant in the photo. What a bummer ...

Falls Church, VA(Zone 7b)

Great pictures, Wrightie! I was at the Arboretum last weekend and saw a lot of nice plants....I liked that rosemary bed.

The nightshade family....those are good shots. Those plants are supposed to be poisonous? At least one I kind is, "Deadly Nightshade."

Yes, I agree--the salvias were stunning!!

Guess what ... I have some stragglers thanks to my batteries dying before uploading all of Batch 1.

Wow! What a treat!!

Salvias!!! I've planted several varieties, lost a few... now I'm inspired to start some more from seed this winter, maybe pick up a special cultivar or two... :-)

Off Topic question: Can someone please 'splain to me why photos do not show up in the Herb Forum Thread List? Weird.
