Hi Everyone, I was really happy when I read this message because the Tech School Horticulture Program was great for the students and community. It was shut down for awhile for lack of funding.
If you have extra seeds that need a home and you would be willing to mail to them, they will be welcomed, and used for educating future gardeners. The address is at the end of Kevin's message. Thank you for your kindness. We are zone 5 outside, but they have a huge greenhouse:

Hello,
I recently was hired to re-open a horticulture program at North Tech High School and am seeking donations of old house plants, and other plants, seeds, bulbs and or outside plants, to help stock our educational greenhouse and to use as teaching material. It doesn't matter if they are damaged, have insects, or other problems, we will do our best to get them healthy and learn about their care.
We can also use landscaping items and foral supplies (rocks, paving material, ponds, timbers, ribbon, dried plants, etc.)
Thank You for any help you can give us.

Seeds for Technical School Program
Florissant is a 'burb of St. Louis isn't it?
Hope they can really handle a deluge of seeds!!!
Yes LazLo, Florissant is a burb of St. Louis. They have a HUGE space to fill, I think they will manage. Won't it be neat for the students to see how much gardeners care while they prepare for jobs? I'm digging up begonias today to take over, no point in letting frost take them. Plus I have a pile of pots in the garage that were waiting to go back to the nursery to recycle, they are going to the school, too. My daughter put a big garden window in her new house, so she took my extra houseplants, or they would be going, too. I've asked all my friends if they have housplants that need a home. Can you tell I'm happy they are starting back up? I'm a firm believer in trade schools for some students; my son built a house his senior year and learned so much. He makes his living doing emergency re-hab.
Think they would like some more exotic plants? I have a few things hanging around that I'm sure they have never seen in person and probably never have seen a picture of. They would look nice in the green house but I don't know if they're looking for useful plants for their zone.
I have some Hardy hibiscus seeds that are loaded with bugs, wonder if they would like dealing with that for a project? LOL.
"It doesn't matter if they are damaged, have insects, or other problems, we will do our best to get them healthy and learn about their care."
Core, I'm taking them at their word, they can't learn if they don't have bugs, etc. In the past they have had exotic plants, house plants, things that have to stay in the green house, garden plants, you name it, they had it. I've got some tiny seed heads that are going whole, I don't have the dexterity any more.
Now if I don't get off the computer and out into the yard, it will be time for my nap before I get any yard work done, lol.
Okay I'm in. E-mailed Mr. Tucker and it seems he has a 10,000 square ft. green house to fill up so I'm going to send him some odd things and very common SC plants. Where he is the common plants will be exotic. Lol. Seems like a worthy cause. I just want a section with my name on it. LOL. The Corey Poliquin, what is considered a pest in SC and a few cool plants section. Only kidding. I asked him if he wants Hardy hibiscus seeds with a bug problem, let's see what his answer is?
Thank you so much Corey, you are doing a good thing.
hey - you should contact your teacher and tell him to quickly contact DG member JaxFlaGardener ... the guy who has seeds from 1,000 pumpkins to get rid of ...
and as requests seem to be petering out i am going to send your teacher buddy a few gazillion seeds - - they better enjoy the butterflies next year, else there's nothing they will be able to do about it. ;--)
Lazlo, you are too funny and also very nice. Can you imagine how many pumpkin seeds that will be? I googled and found one pumpkin that had 609 seeds and it wasn't very big. Holy cow!
If I was there I'd give you a big ol' hug. Cathy
did i tell you that i lived in Chesterfield - so close to Florissant that our post office was in Town And Country? check out what i am posting when i close out my seed offers == > http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/775096/

and ignore the grammar . . . Boston is winning tonight and I think the Miller Lite is doing all the typing right now. ;--)

LazLo, you rock. Take it easy on the Miller Lite, haha. I didn't know you lived in Chesterfield, small world, why are you in TX now?
'cause now i know better!
just kidding ... i come from here
I got a bunch of flower seeds. I was going to do some trades with, but people where so kind to my friend when she was in need of seeds (donations poored in ) . Hey the chain of kindness starts at DG !!
if you can use them i can donate them to you
sue
I will mail them monday or tues . I just have to find a envelope big enough :)
Sue, thank you so much, they will be greatly appreciated! Cathy
Cathy... Have Kevin send off emails to the big seed company reps that service your area too like Ball and Sergentia and GoldSmith, ect... They donate seed to legit school projects. You have to send emails in the fall and spring to get both season type crops.
Wow, that is great information! Thank you starlight, I'm forwarding the information right away. C
HI i will send some seeds you know for contrabutions at wall mart they have something for weddings that you can add yours to a already growing account or whateaver they call it if they had an account for the school like that it might work easier than sending a gift card also might be more fulfilling as they wouldnt have the deterrant of having to mail; the card and may be more willing just to drop in and donate--all they would need the account info --happy growing
Thanks Godsplace, I'll pass your suggestion to Kevin. Cathy
bump
Thought this was a good time to bump this up. Thanks!
cathy, if you are looking for challenging seeds, Ceeadesalaskazone3 has brought over her seed collection. I've sorted most and have four plastic grocery sacks of commercial and collected seeds that are outdated or unlabeled. Are any of these of interest?
weez, let me check with Kevin, it may take a few days. Tks!
No hurry.
Weez, I caught Kevin on the first try, he would love to have the seeds. Thank you! I even promised to come out and help sort and organize seeds, I'm a happy camper this winter, I get to play in a 10,000 sq ft greenhouse. Woohoo! Cathy
hah - that sounds like fun. And with four kids, I can appreciate seeing schools get everything they need.
I have a handful of seeds that weren't cleaned properly (I didn't know how to do tomatoes!) but do sprout (would you believe I have six tomato plants now, from a store-bought tomato?). I'll rummage around in my shoebox - I haven't had any trades come in yet, or any donations (yet), so I only have what I've started with. I'll send whatever I can, though!
-Sev
Hugs and kisses to everyone who is sending things. Next spring I will post pictures. I took a huge cactus out this morning (from a neighbor), I soooo wanted to keep it.
Great, Cathy. Ceeadsalaskazone3 is an avid seed collector, and is usually good about labeling. I laughed to find that a few of the commercial packets were dated 1979!...must be Disco Seeds! For the most part, they are newer, but it is a test of the life span of a seed, at the very least. I'll double check with her to make sure I can send them.
Cripes, those seeds are almost as old as I am *boggle*
If they sprout I'll be amazed. It would certainly be amusing, though!
-Sev
Yes, she purchased those seeds the year I was divorced from my first husband! I'm on my third!
Yikes, did you wear out the first two? lol
The first marriage just wore out, I guess, and the second one wasn't a divorce. He just flew off in his little plane and didn't come back. Not his fault or mine... the dangers of bush piloting.
