I will have some Isabella cuttings I could share with you, and maybe some others. I won't be cutting them back until the first frost, though.

Here's Isabella from a few days ago...

Indiana-Lily, that is a beatiful picture! I am just getting started and have a brug cutting (variety unknown) that was shared with me at the recent roundup here. After seeing your picture I am really going to be spoiling that little baby. Thank you for sharing that with us!

Indiana Lily, How long does it take for a little 5" or 6" piece of brug to become the size of Isabella pictured above? Assume average rate of growth, Indiana summer, and somebody who will water and fertilize.

I got one of another variety and I found out later it is a slow grower...am thinking about putting it up for adpotion and getting a faster one. LOL!

Suzy,

About a year and a half - remember part of that year they are dormant. I got Isabella in June of 2006 and at the time I got her she was about 4' tall. By the end of 2006 she was about 7' tall. Then I cut her back a lot for overwintering. She grew a lot in 2007 despite the very hot weather and drought.

You're the one who has Snowbank, right? I think I remember seeing your tread in the brug forum. That is a very pretty brug.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Would you like to try Datura Black Currant Swirl seeds? I planted some in January (in Florida) and just gave away the last of them but I still have seeds. They were pretty fast growers. I believe the blossoms are called triple because of their fullness.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks! I heard they grew fast, but I wasn't sure what that meant. Yes, It's my Snowbank, but they (in the brug forum) said it's a slow grower.

Mittsy, I appreciate the offer, very nice of you! I think I'll pass for this year, though.

Thanks, ladies!

I have a very fast growing brug. I don't know the name though. It roots very easily like an impatien and grows rampant. It gets as tall as my house and I have to cut it back at least twice a year. Very amazingly fragrant. I would imagine in 6 months you would have a very large branched plant from a cutting. The buds are yellow and then they turn salmon as they open.

wow zozzl. thats a beauty. envious of all who get flowers. i had a few rooted cuttings that didnt survive our weather this winter.

Zozzi,
Looks like my insignis pink brug. I have 2 in the front yard and it scents the whole yard during the night & early am.
I think I'm rooting some cuttings now. I have some others that aren't mark but are either pink or peach and scented.
They have been rooted for a couple months now and well established.

You know what budgielover? You are right! Thank you so much for the ID. I had not been able to quite find the right ID but after googling the brug insignis pink I did find some photos and descriptions that were exactly like it! I think it is an interesting brug in that it does not hand straight down like many of them and it soooooo easy to grow:)

Thanks again!

There are lots of Brugs that look like the picture so you still do not know what you have. The only way to know for sure is to dust the blooms with a known Insignis pollen several times and if it never takes you have an Insignis.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Mine was purchased as insignis pink and I know for a fact it won't pollinate itself. I can send you a cutting if you want to test yours.

Well, mine is an exact copy of pictures that I have found on the internet from the yellow buds that change color as they open to the way they hang from the shrub. It never has set seeds in the 7 years that I have owned it but I can try pollinating it. I have so many little buzzing insects that I am reasonably sure it would have been pollinated by now if it was possible.

I'll let ya'll know if it does set seeds but I don't think it will.

Pat,
In order for brugs to set pods, you must have a second brug. Brugs are self-sterile.
Many, many brugs look alike, and many many blooms start off as yellow and turn to pink. Unless you're certain you have a particular cultivar (you purchased it from a reputable dealer), it's best to call it a "No ID" so as not to create any confusion or disappointment if giving people cuttings. Whether you have a named brug or not, it is still beautiful, right? ^_^

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Oh I see! I did pollinate with a different bush, I have 3 so we shall see...
Thanks,

Pat

Sometimes pollenation doesn't take because it is too hot. The best time to cross-pollenate would be in the Spring or Fall when the temps aren't so brutal. Then again, some brugs are harder to set pods than others. :)

Doncha guys feel sorry for Kelboindy who is dying for brug cuttings? Here you guys down south practically shear them with hedge clippers to keep them in line, and she is dying for some in little Georgetown, Indiana where they think a brug is a Polish Sausage!

Can anybody slip some cuttings in a bubble envie for her?

Suzy

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

You mean she never got any since her Oct post? Kelboindy, d-mail me, please!

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

I thought she may have gotten some from Indiana Lily. I have several rooted cuttings that are either pink or peach (didn't mark them) and both fragrant but seems most people want named brugs. I;s be more than happy to send a rooted noid for postage if still needed.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh, MY! I am surely this week's winner of the idiot award! I had no idea the original post was from last fall. Maybe I did a search on cuttings and found an old post....so sorry!!!

Suzy, it happens all the time, really! LOL!
Actually, Kelly (Kelboindy) and I met in October because we live so close together, and I did give her a bunch of brug cuttings along with some Sweet Autumn Clematis. Hope the cuttings and clematis are doing well for you, Kelly! :)

Cordele, GA(Zone 8a)

Suzy, your heart is always is the right place. We southerners take brugs for granted, at least I do, and I should be offering more cuttings than I do.
