October alpines

Well my display is drawing to a close but I still have a scattered alpine (ish) plant in bloom. Here is Gentiana Kingfisher..I held a black cardboard behind the plant to give it a studio-like quality!

Colchicum agrippinum...the only hardy truely alpine colchicum...even the foliage is small on this one!

Those are mouthwatering pics, Todd!

The gentian is so ... lifelike(?): it pops right out at you!
And that one and G. sino-ornata are two more lime-hating gentians for you, Altagardener.

I think I asked you this before Todd, but what is that plant with the "bumpy" leaves in the Cyclamen pic? Not sure I like it, LOL, but it's interesting none-the-less.

Love the petal form of that colchicum too.

This year, all my Allium thunbergii flowers in three different gardens have washed out color. I am guessing it is all the heat and drought we've had. Flower count is way down too.

The bumpy-leaved plant is Gerenium renardii....flowers are OK but the foliage is the more interesting aspect.

somewhere, PA

Those are sumptuous! All of them.

Beautiful!

Not relevant to the topic of "October alpines" (but reflective, perhaps, of how long the season might be in different areas), we're getting a taste of winter tonight. The temperature dropped from 72 deg F (an all-time high for this date) to 32 deg F in about 3 hours, and it's snowing and blowing like a fiend out there!

Ah, the joys of Calgary! We're bad enough here...yesterday it hit 65 F but today's high is only 38 F!

So now we've had several inches of rain in the past week or so, and my Allium flowers now have normal color, but they are still shorter than usual.
