Michigan Chcken Show

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Saturday and Sunday was the Frankenmouth Fowl Fest. We had never attended a chicken show other than our local fair. Wow, what a difference!

We saw chickens and ducks of every description. We saw green and purple ducks and chickens the size of a soda can. We saw huge hens with sleepy eyes and roosters with legs like roadrunners. We saw frizzled feathers and silky wings, trailing tail feathers and powder puff heads. We marveled at chickens that looked like they were draped in lace or spangled with silver sequins. We could never have prepared for the sight of the stately geese, near 20 years old who held court in their pen like royalty.

We watched disappointed adults shoving less than perfect chickens under the tables and children who kissed their chicks good luck. We watched young boy walk all around the room with his silky perched on his shoulder and an old woman with no teeth and a chicken hat on her head. We saw two runner ducks race across the room pursued by their owner and eggs of every color and size.

It was a wonderful day even though I did not find anything in the sales area (I guess my white silkies will have to wait) I only wish I could have taken my Americaunna rooster with us. He would have outshone them all!

It will be so much fun going thorough the catalogs this year now that I know that a black cayogga is the exact shade of red wine in a green bottle or that runner ducks really look like bowling pins with feet. I’ll know that I truly love millefluers and the bantam ducks look like something out of Disney Land. Now I know that I absolutely do not want to listen to guinea hens in the yard, but I might consider a royal palm turkey. I can hardly wait!

Well you certainly had a most interesting day!
Its fun seeing all the different breeds isn't it?
Sounds like the people watching was just as much fun.
Did you go to Bronners?
I wanted to go to the show but was too busy this past weekend.
I've got Ameraucanas too.
You can see them and my waterfowl on my website.

I'm so jealous you went to the Fowl Fest!! I was dying to go, but my Kentucky trip got postponed a week - and so I found myself out of town for it! I'm glad you enjoyed it - it'll be on my list of "must-do's" for next year!

We make a trip every year to Bronner's - I think this year will make 8 years in a row....kinda tradition! :) Anyways, it's at least something to see - amazing that there
is THAT much stuff for Christmas!!!! If they don't have it - nobody will!!! :)

Ah, but Bronners doesn't have this!
Finding the toys and accessories for my Santas is why we went. Amazingly I didn't find much there, but had a great time at Hobby Lobby in Saginaw on the way home.
