Have: Cardinal flower seed

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

this is the wild cardinal flower. I have grown it for several years. When I moved it to a wetter place, it did much better. It is listed as a perennial, but it doesn't always come back so I let it reseed or save seeds and plant them where I want them right after they bloom and seeds mature. Mine are in a lot of shade and some are in boggy ground. Plantfiles says sun to part-shade but I find they tolerate more shade than you might suppose. Apparently they grow most anywhere except in zone 10. I assume the hotter the zone, the more shade they need.
The seeds are tiny but I have found easy to germinate. If you want them to bloom next year, then you should live in zone 8 or 9 to give them time to grow this season. Otherwise, you need to wait until next spring to plant them.
I am looking for shade plants seed.

I am very interested in some of your cardinal flower seeds. I tried growing them last year from seed, but I think the seeds were old and no longer viable. What kind of seeds are you looking for?

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I don't know, perhaps some kind of shade perennial. I'm a bit lazy about seeds although better now that I have my little greenhouse. The seeds were collected just a few weeks ago.

Do you want flowering shade plants or foliage shade plants or what?

preferably flowering

Betty - Let me look around my garden beds and see what seeds I can harvest that are flowering and shade loving plants. Is your garden deep shade or dappled shade or partial shade?

All 3, lol.

Would love cardinal flower seed. Could trade Sedum seed (light beige) or for postage.

do you have a picture?

I don't see anything blooming in my parial shade areas except my Moonvines. And they only bloom at night. Hmmm .... Most everything else that blooms likes a bit of sun. Sorry.

becky, part shade is fine. I just picked a whole bunch more cardinal flower seeds, so I will send some to you.

Do you want some moonvine seeds? They are the Giant White flowers with heart-shaped leaves and a nice scent.

I remember them. Will they take part shade? Our climate is pretty cool here.

Mine are growing in part shade now. (Morning sun and afternoon shade.) Plant them in the Spring. Beautiful flowers and a nice looking vine. One of my favorites of all the Morning Glories that I grow!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Yes, I am in the addy exchange. I see that you are, too. Will get some seeds out to you this week! :-) Thanks for the trade Betty!
