Looking for Daydreams

(Cathy), MO

If anyone has cuttings of Daydreams, I would love some. Don't know if I'll have anything you want to trade for it, but let me know if you have some and we'll see what we can work out. I would do postage or even pay for it!

Thanks Cathy

Hello Cathy,

I just got one if you still have not found one let me know. I am sure we could work out something.

James

Is it big enough to take cuttings from? I want one of these so bad I can taste it! LOl!

(Cathy), MO

Can I ask where you got it James? From an individual? I can only find it listed one place online to order and it's sold out.

(Mike) Batesville, AR

lol! I would like one too! I can dream - can't I? :)

Hello Cathy,

Yeah I got it from an ebay auction and it is just a cutting itself. I think this place does have them I think they are far to much money http://www.countrygdn.com/catalog2.html . If you can wait till the Spring I will have some by then.

James

(Cathy), MO

Country garden is the only place I could find them and they are sold out. Big ouch when I saw the price!

(Mike) Batesville, AR

James

It's a pretty one! Enjoy it!

Oh I will Mike that is for sure I am truely addicted to them. That is one that I have been wanting for awhile and I found it with about 5 others and it was so inexpensive I could not believe it.

Yes Cathy that is the only place that I know of I will ask another grower tomorrow when I speak with him if he has one if so he will be sending me some cuttings and plants really soon. Then I could send it to you but I would wait till there is no signs of frost.

www.seedsprout.com carries them, but it looks like she is out right now. You might want to email Brenda to see if she is going to have them soon. She always sends big healthy plants!

ZZ

Just looking at Brenda's pic of Day Dreams made me foam at the mouth! lol! So close - yet so far away!

I'm new at these though, so there is a very good possibility I MIGHT kill it. Sure hope not! Any tricks you'd like to share? Do you guys root them in water or soil, & if so what kind?

(Mike) Batesville, AR

Cathy

I put cuttings in distilled water (changing daily) until the white "nubbies" appear. I then pot them up in 16 oz. plastic cups (with holes in the bottom). I use my own potting mixture - which consists of Schultz Perlite (8 qt. bag) mixed thoroughly with Schultz Peat Moss (8 qt. bag). Water sparingly. A sure way of killing a cutting is to much water (root rot). This seems to work for me - but I'm sure others will chime in with their preferences. Hope this helps!

Are the pictures you're posting brugs that you have?? I'm jealous!

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

I think his price is reasonable for Day Dreams. Two years ago it would have gone for over $200. on eBay. As time goes by and more people clone it they become affordable. Now if you're patient you could get a piece of it for a trade most likely. I've slowed down because my greenhouse isn't that big, but if I want something I'm known to go a little crazy for it on eBay. Bidding brings out a competitive streak in me. LOL I agree with those that call it evil bay. ;-)

This is a winter bloom from last year. The spring blooms are much bigger and darker. Sadly I lost most many pictures when my computer died.

mpabbot1, beautiful! All of them are gorgeous. I'm so jealous!! I am wanting to get started into brugs and lust after every one I see! LOL!

I'm heading for the shower and bed before long. 5:30 comes early. Thanks guys

This site had them, and the price includes shipping. I've bought a lot of plants from this site and they've always been healthy plants and have always been true to what they say they are.

I just finished reading all the thread you posted ZZ. Thanks! Alot of good info in there.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Your welcome Cat.. It seems that last year, I could root a rock in water.. this year all I get is rot..

(Cathy), MO

Well wish me luck! I'm just now trying to start learning!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

It is so fun... and can be sooo frustrating.. but the rewards are immense when you get them.
I am a newbie also.. and I am loving the learning.. even the painful part.
My best advice is to read old posts.. that is how to find out all the different ways people have done things and adapt your own methods from there. You can search the threads and get a wealth of knowledge!

Good luck!

(Cathy), MO

Thanks! :-)

What a great rooting thread. I did do this with a few tip cuttings once and noticed that as long as I kept the plastic over them, they stayed hydrated. When I took it off they dried up from the top down. I think if I had left them in the plastic longer it would have worked....I just needed to be more patient lol. Gonna try it again now.
