I think they have moved on to warmer ground. I haven't seen them for about 2 weeks. I saw one once since then but I think it was passing through. I am already wanting them to come back.
Hummers have gone :(
Need to get more of the Lonicera sempervirens blooming for you. I still have flowers here and an occasional ruby throat bebopping around.
It won't be long till the frosts hit, though, and then they'll migrate on out.
I thought mine were gone last week too, but I was working in the garden Friday and saw one nectaring on the Verbena and she followed me around--I think she was upset my feeders were empty so I refilled them.
So I'm still on watch for them...
Also thought my butterflies were gone but today I saw a number of monarchs, painted ladies, common buckeyes, clouded sulphurs and assorted skippers out in the sunshine in our garden and the parkland next to us. (-:
It's been about two weeks since I've seen one. :( My shrimp plant, lantana, salvia greggii, agastache, and butterfly bushes are still blooming in full force, and I still have my feeders out, so it's not like they would starve if they came to my place. :)
Saw a few Monarchs today. Have yet to see any of the black swallowtails we've released. So, everything has really slowed down here.
Yeah, I miss the little dive-bombers too. :)
I saw one on the 11th. I have the feeling she was passing through though. Haven't seen her since. The last male I saw was on the 7th. I'm going to keep my feeders up for a long time. Last year I read in the paper that Leesburg Ga (35 miles west of me) had hummers winter-over there. I need work on planting more fall hummer magnets like Leonotis leonurus or what VV suggests, Lonicera sempervirens. I just don't have enough things for it to climb on unless I let it loose into the pine trees. I don't think I want to do that though.
I still have lots and lots of stuff they loved this year. I just think mine have started to migrate and the one I saw was passing through. I will keep my feeders up for a while to make sure the passing throughs will be okay on their trip.
