I am looking for advice on how to overwinter a tropical hibiscus (Brilliant Red). I am in Zone 4
and currently have it split in three pots indoors. My temps indoors ma range from 60 - 70.
On my back porch the temps can range from 35 - 55 during the winter. What is the best climate? Should I cut it back?
Overwintering a Tropical Hibiscus
I over wintered 1 last year, and this year I am over wintering 3. The temps downstairs where I keep it is between 40-50 degrees, maybe even a little cooler. I tried not to over water it. I misted it. It bloomed all winter for me. I have it downstairs now, and it's still flowering. I need to cut mine back, but I'm going to wait until spring. Hope this helps. Good luck. Tammy
Hi There, For the past 10 years I've brought mine in once the temps drops below 50 degrees - I have tropicals and a few exotics. Indoors it's about 65 degrees the plants seem to like it and doesn't affect the bloom size like the colder temps seem to do. Good luck!
