Plant Show Purchases

Largo, FL

I picked up three new hoyas today at the USF Plant Fair in Tampa. They were tagged but an internet search on the specific plants I thought I purchased only served to further confuse me. I hope someone out there can help me identify these.

First up, this was labeled Hoya picta but does not look like anything I have been able to find on line.

Second is this one which was labeled Hoya keysii. I found several referencs to this plant as Hoya austrailis ssp. keysii or Hoya austrailis ssp. austrailis.

And finally is this plant which was labeled Hoya chimera. I think this may be Hoya pubicalyx though I am not positive. All three of these are very healthy and for five dollars each I'm not complaining. However I would like to be as sure as possible on the ID. Thanks for any help you may be able to give me.

Hey there. GREAT plants!!! The first one is one of the variegated H. carnosa. I think somewhere in the long name was a 'mediopicta' which means the variegation was in the middle...I think.... The second one is H. australis ssp. australis and the third one is H. pubicalyx - which of the clones you won't know until it blooms.

You did really well!!!!

Thanks to you all. It is always a great show with lots of good deals.

Carol - Thanks for the ID's on the plants. I posted a picture of another plant I bout. I thought it might be related to hoyas but I found out it is in the same family as african violets. Very cool though even if it isn't a hoya:)

This is the whole plant. I should be able to root it like a hoya. It looks like it's due for a "trim".

When you "trim" that Black Pagoda make sure you save the 'trimmings' and replant them :) It is very easy to propagate from cuttings. A small basket with several rooted cuts may make a nice trade for future Hoyas someday. No doubt that's probably how your plant came to be.
