I'm thinking of moving my dahlias to the east side of the house so they will be protected from the sun in the afternoon. I've heard they like full sun, but perhaps that's too much of a good thing in NC. Any thoughts about this? Thanks!
dahlias
The question is, do they seem like they are struggling where they are now? If not, then leave them where they are.

You would still want to dig them up and divide or thin them out every 2-3 years or they will get lazy.
I got a couple of dahlias for a buck and I can say one thing. They burnt to a crisp this summer. Someone warned me they don't grow around here and I proved them right. I would say they don't like full sun.
........or our over the top humidity.
They are in part shade and struggling, but my soil is not so good either, and we've had a nasty drought. I hear that next summer will be very wet, so it may be that they will not do well no matter where they are. What do you have in your garden that likes humidity and part shade? Thank you all for your responses. LS
