Is this MM going to bloom?

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Im in Michiga where I hopefully will get some more time for Mountain Magic to show me what shes going to look like..I know she isnt going to be as dark as she would be if it was summer but I just cant stand thinking that shes not going to be able to bloom before the frost comes..any thought on how much longer its going to be before she at least gives me a little hint to next years blooms?..Judy

Im hoping so since there are quite a few buds on the top...I know those wont make it unless we have unseasonable temps coming for quite awhile..its that time of year when you just dont want to let go of the brugs...Judy

Most of mine are in pots and I'll move them into the garage to protect them from that first frost. Back out again if the weather looks good. The ones in the ground will be cut off at ground level and put in water. They won't bloom for me, but should root before spring and be ready to put in a pot for the summer. Your MM will make you happy, I'm sure. About the only thing that bothers mine is the wind.

Hi Judy,
Do you have MM in the ground? I have had 3 frosts so far, I covered them all WELL with sheets for the first 3, when the weather dorks said freeze for me, IN THEY CAME, I have all mine in containers, I found out the hard way with them in the ground, Oh yes they do WAY better in the ground, but you pay &&^* getting them back out:) Hope you are doing well..:)Anita

Anita, mine are all in pots and we are having frost warnings again tonight..I wish I had a huge tarp to go over the whole veggie garden where the brugs are right now but I will just have to hope that we dont get the frost..we live pretty close to the big lake and it saves us most of the time until the really hard frosts hits us in November...

Thanks everybody for your encouragment...Im heading out right now to check to see if my MM is alittle more open...Judy

Update on the MM blooming..It started to bloom nicely and then the huge winds ..we had over 60 miles an hour winds and the poor flower just got beat up..I did see it all mushed and getting darker though..I guess I take what I get..Im going to look forward to this one blooming nicely for me next year...can somebody tell me if its a late bloomer or early?..I know this plant wasnt mature enough to tell the first year...Judy

That's too bad, Judy. We had the winds here too. It made a mess of my brugs that were just opening their last big flush. This would have been Rosalao, but I didn't get to see one bloom open. The wind just fried everything. Today I'm taking my own cuttings. No need to wait any longer.

Shirley doesnt it break your heart when that happens?..I had pampered MM all summer and with the heat it wasnt growing at all...when it cooled down it started to grow and I was so hoping for a bud...all the waiting and then the pure pleasure wasnt there..lolol...I know that next year will be better...

Your Rosalao looks like it would have been a wonderful site to see....Judy

It's sad, but Mother Nature has a mind of her own. Today she is giving us more of her wind. It's grey out there now and I believe it is supposed to rain. I'm glad I got a little bit of work done. It will be cold all week.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Shirley, I'm sorry that happened to you.. what a drag.

Well, it does make taking cuttings easier! I guess ya gotta look for the positive or it's just to dang hard. LOL

Judy if your bringing that plant inside, you could possibly get more blooms couldn't you? Or are you going to overwinter it dormant? Just curious..

When it warms, I have a lot of cutting to do. These and.................

ZZ, our weather isnt going to hold out for much longer..we had a cold spell and thats when MM was just about to pop, we warmed up so it had a chance to bloom for me..I have about 6 small buds coming but Im sure they arent going to make it since this week we are going down to the 40s at night...Im dragging all my brugs closer to the house every day so that if we have a frost warning they wont be so hard to get in real fast..Shirley, a question about maya cuttings..do you find that they will root easier if you take a more woody cutting?..Ive tried with greener cuttings and they just mush...great looking brugs and it looks like you have alot of work ahead of you....Judy

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

The only way I can get her to root for me is by taking a cutting, woody if possible, during the summer. I didn't get one taken this year, so I'm going to try to overwinter the plant.
