Philodendron with Red Stems

Tempe, AZ(Zone 9a)

This Philodendron has beautiful smooth red stems. When I bought it, it was labeled "Philo Red." I think this garden center makes up the names because another was labeled Philo "Slab." Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Looks a lot like Philodendron "Red Emerald"; check the link below:

Here's the DG link; yours looks so good, perhaps you can add your pic to the PlantFiles here:

That's a nice one you've got there Cindy! I really like the shape of the leaves. I too have a large red stemmed Philo that had no ID. I bought it at a local Home Depot a year ago and still don't have a clue as to which it is.

Plantladylin,

Your plant is definitely different form Cindy's. Yours looks like Philodendron "Rojo Congo". it grows more robust, and the leaves more upright, with more light or even partial sun. In Daytona, you could keep it outdoors for a lot of the year.

Thank you LariAnn .... I knew it wasn't the same one that Cindy has with the different leaves and growth. Now that you said that name, I do remember Giancarlo awhile back telling me it looked like Rojo Congo! I am printing out the PF page now so I will remember to label the plant tomorrow. Mine is in full shade on a covered deck. I was afraid if I put it out in full sun the leaves would get scorched.

Thanks so much for ID'ing both Cindy's Red Emerald and my Rojo. I have a small Philo in a hanging basket, that I might have to post a photo of tomorrow to see if anyone can ID it for me!

Thank you LariAnn, I appreciate the ID, the quick reply and the link. That link answered every other question I had about this plant.

Thank you plantladylin - yours is a beauty. Can't wait to see the one you're posting tomorrow.
