What might be doing this?

Emory, TX(Zone 8a)

I am not sure where to post this question, but since I am in Texas, I thought maybe someone local would know what does this. I have had several plants this year to have this problem and never and it before. I seems to be on every potaoe vine I have, but it bothers other plants too.

That is ugly ~ I am sorry but don't know what might be causing it. Have you had an excessive amount of moisture at this time?

Not now, but I did in early summer like we all did.... Bit the 1st one is in the greenhouse and has never been outside. I thnk it is some kind of insect...

I've had the same thing this Fall. I caught one of the lil' boogers in the act. It was a 1/4" dark, dry looking slug thingy. It eats the soft under growth and leaves a transparent window on the leaf. As far as a real I.d......I have no idea.I do know that DE makes them dead.

DE?

I knew you were going to make me spell it. lol
Be right back, got to look it up.

DE=diatomaceous earth
I get mine at Bruce Miller,
this site calls it fossil shell flour, much easier to spell at least. www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html?gclid=CMn5oemQio8CFSgZagodhVSBvA

Hi coco_lulu! I have not talked to you in a while! Thank you for the info! We go to Bruce Miller frequently! I just have not ever really known what DE was for but I have heard of it. I will have to get some.

I have looked for your shop every time we go through Grand Saline, but I never can find it!

Hard to tell from the photos, but check into leaf-minors.

Hi Carol, the DE is wonderful stuff. Someone suggested I apply it with a feather duster and it works well for spot treating bad bugs without chemicals. I sweep it into the cracks of our baseboards around the house for scorpions too.

The shop is still there, on your right side of 80, but if you blink you could miss it. lol

Clathrus, I think you're right. It's some sort of saw fly larva. I looked around, tho, couldn't find an exact i.d.
