You know how sometimes when something is in the ground, and you underestimate their size? The Rose-of-Sharon were dug, yesterday..and those things are HUGE! About five feet tall..and they have tap roots that need a big pot. Most of them will go into 10 gallon pots, a couple need 15 gallons.
My plan is to put them into just enough soil, to keep them in place...will that work? They are all soaking in a trash can, full of water...
Advice
Melvatoo ~ What a phenomenal job that must have been. How come you dug them? Are you moving and wanted to take them too... They are easy to propagate either from seeds or cuttings.
Althea or Rose of Sharon is hardy to zone 5 so I would hope you didn't go to all that trouble to overwinter them...

I promised some to people at the RU...I was thinking they were smaller, Hah!
Bless your heart Melva, you are really going to be overloaded, how are you going to transport them to the swap?
Josephine.
I hadn't thought about that! Maybe someone with a truck, can transport them for me?
Check with Stephanietx she is coming from the same area as you.
Otherwise if you can not find someone with a truck, then you might want to severely cut back the branches and roots, to make them manageable, and if you haven't dug up all of them, don't dig them up, just tell them they are bigger than you thought, and you can't handle them. Maybe whoever wanted them can come to your house to get them.
Josephine.
I dug about five of them...and looking at my list, there are four of them, that are promised...there are more of them here that people can come and get....
Is there anyone in the Denton area who has a truck, and can transport these trees for me?
Please?
