final one and a question: this one is a shiny leaf one; it has also not put out any extra plants like my other ones do....it IS however putting out shoots(for lack of a better word....who is this and will it morph into several plants or are the shoots its attempt to reproduce?

All three are Colocasias; the one with the shoot (actually, a runner) is indeed reproducing itself. Soon a little plant will form at the tip, looking for a place to root. The first one looks a lot like Colocasia esculenta.

lari...thanks for the response...; will that one sending off runners ever morph into a plant by its momma like the others? or is this the only way it reproduces? thank you :)

No, I've got one similar to it but the new baby plants always form at the end of the runners. In a pot it may look like one forms next to momma, but really the runner has circled around and around and the baby just ended up close. If you cut off a runner, a new one will branch out from it! These do well near or even in a shallow pond and form a colony of plants as the runners root in with their babies.

how amazing; ...one i cut off to see if i could root it....but my other ees don't have the runner things....they just come out next to the moms....

Yes, the first two EEs you posted are the kind that do have babies next to momma. I haven't tried rooting the runner without a baby at the end, but it's worth a try. If it roots, I bet it makes a baby at the end.

you know what happened...it had rained here and i put out water buckets....the shoot went to the water bucket and started rooting....then my stupid cat tipped over the waterbucket and so i tryed again....cat knocked over again(he tries to get water from them and wont go to his water bowls)...anyway, the roots looked like they were drying out cause of the in and out of the poor thing.....so i cut it off and put the roots in soil in a baggie....will keep you posted what happesn:)

The dark stem form with the shinny leaves is Colocasia Fontenesii

Send a photo. We will try our best to get a name on it. Most the forms are hybrids or forms of esculenta. Their are tons of forms of it but they are all considered the same species. Many of them have nursery names though that help ID them a bit more.
