Double Orange Seedling

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I'm told this poor plant was blown over 3 times this morning before I found the flower. I guess all of my potted brugs. have taken a beating this morning...they all went down. I've been busy with details on my new rooms, but I'm switching gears, and all of the plants I want to save must be brought in. Thank goodness the garages still have walls and floors, lol. This is a large flower. Forgot to check for fragrance.

Gorgeous! Love the color.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

As this is a seedling and the first bloom, it does not have a name. I hope it proves worthy but only time will tell on its fate.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Very nice! Keep us updated, more pics.

Hope we don't get frost this weekend, way too soon, my brugs are just starting to bloom, have waited all summer.

WOW!!! What a beautiful color. It look like you have a huge flower as well. Can' t wait to see another shot.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice color. Too bad your plants went over in the wind. It's pretty windy here again today. Tendrils are getting burned. Hope you have time to see a lot more blooms on this one.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

It IS BIG, and very dark orange AND double! NICE! Hibiscus, I hope the frost holds off for you. I told my daughter the other night.. Look a the brugs! We usually don't get to see this, 3rd and 4th flushes and brugs loaded with blooms (buds, yes but not BLOOMS).... She looked puzzled, I had to remind her that in years before they were already in the basement by now.... I'm lovin' the late season we're having here.. Brugs glorious Brugs! It will be time to bring them in before long, but I have to look and smell every night!

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow AuntB, I know the feeling I was living up north and had to bring them in every winter but now I am down south and can leave them outdoors but I do enjoy them all the same.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Beautiful and orange to boot! What's not to love?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

ZZ, you are so special! That's part of the reason why eveyone here loves you! I never thought to count the tendrils. Is that important? I just hope the next blooming flowers are blooming orange. LOL

Congratulations Tussee. It's a beautiful flower and it's a real giant. Is this from the same cross?

Yes, this is from the same cross. This plant may turn out to be one I have to develop, by crosses, into a sharper color of orange.

First flower; who knows? It may still get darker yet. :)
Do you have any pollen from darker oranges to try on her?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Tussee! Thank you for the kind words.. I think a 6 pointer is special.. It's just me.. LOL I like the unusual.. unique.

I love that vibrant orange.. Just love it! Can we see a full shot?

Crumpler, WV

Tussee, congrats on your double orange seedling!!! It looks great. I am lost to what cross you guys are talking about though. Could you post the cross in this thread so that info would be available in here?

Do you have any more buds coming along that may open before frost hits your area? I would love to see a full side shot of the bloom too.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

grrrthnthumb, I do not have the pollen I need, but several new to me brugs. that have not bloomed yet, should provide me with some. I'll grow these plants in my solarium so I can have good control if and when they bloom. I love the thought of being able to continue working with the brugs. through winter. My basement is a winter time nursery for many seedlings of all sorts, but there is no room left in the inn, or the gh.

ZZ, when the sdlg. was moved to the potting shed this afternoon, the flower was lost in transit. I think it was barely holding on from the falls it took earlier in the day. However, there are two buds just starting to open so in a day or two I should be able to send more photographs and measurements.

Edited to add the cross: Creamsickle x Mountain Magic
