Hello: I have come to this forum on numerous occasions for help seeing I do not live in Texas, but in Northern Michigan. My sister lives in Ft. Worth and is forever asking my advice on different aspects of gardening. I guess she feels since I am a Master Gardener, I should know what ever question she asks, I should have a answer for. I keeping telling her, Carol, being a Master Gardener and rocket fuel will get you to the moon. Living in different growing zones makes a big difference.
My question today is: Do roses in the Ft. Worth area go dormant?? And if so, when? Typically here in Michigan, after August, we do not cut back roses or it will encourage them to want to grow, when in fact we want them to get ready for dormancy. Would appreciate any or all information you can supply me on roses..
Thanks so much

Help: Any Texas Rose Gardeners Out There??
I grow roses here - and some do go dormant but most of mine dont go dormant. They still need pruned and cared for.
LMk if I can help - Mitch
I have a few roses, and the answer to the question, of whether they go dormant...some of them do, it seems the ones that bloom, just in the spring, do, go dormant maybe in December? But most of the others stay awake. We try not to encourage them to grow...we don't fertilize them, and we wait until Valentine's Day to do our pruning
