I've been wondering for awhile--are the various hindu rope type hoyas culitvars, or an actual species? In other words, do they occur naturally in the wild, or are they man-made?
Thanks for any info. guys...
Shelley
possibly stupid newby question about hoya compacta...
I believe that the 'hindu ropes' are cultivars... of H. compacta.
Carol
Thanks Carol...so then what does the species H. compacta look like? I guess I'm wondering if the twisted leaves are natural or a man-made selection...
Shelley
I was under the impression that H. compacta is the botanical name for "hindu rope" (so they are actually one in the same), and that H. compacta is a cultivar of H. carnosa.
Gabi
Ohhhh...I see, so it's actually H. carnosa cv compacta, and "hindu rope" is just a trade name? That makes sense...somewhere H.carnosa "sported" into those crinkled leaves and someone kept it going....thanks, that answers my question :)
Shelley
OMG...I must have been on some REALLY bad drugs!!! Of COURSE, Gabi....Hindu Rope IS H. compacta (I was thinking of the cv. Krinkle 8 and engaged fingers before brain!!!) Please forgive!
