Costus ID's...

Clemmons, NC(Zone 7b)

This is confusing. I have some plants with the same name but they sure aren't the same.

This one I purchased as---Costus Speciosus Variegatus

It currently is about 2 feet tall. The leaves are shiny and smooth to the touch

This is another one I recieved in a trade labeled as the same thing--Costus Speciosus Variegatus

However, as you can see the stems are an almost brownish-red, and the underside of the leaves are fuzzy to the touch.

The I got a plant labeled as Costus speciosus

It's hard to see by this picture, but the same burnt-red stems on the oldest stalk and the peach fuzzy backsides of the leaves

here's a close up with the reddish stem--sorry for the quality

and finally, another plant labeled as costus speciosus but with green stems and smooth, leathery foliage

OK, well I at least have an idea that the last one may be costus spicatus after further inspection, which would make the fuzzy leaved one speciosus
