Hoya advice please

Conway, AR(Zone 7b)

I purchased this Hoya at HD earlier this year. I believe it is Hoya Canosa. It just bloomed about a week ago.

I would like to know if the plant will continue to put out blooms? Will it have more than one bloom per plant?

I also want to propagate the plant but am not sure how to do it. It has long stems hanging down that extend well past the last set of leaves. They have small nubs on them. Should I cut these and root them? I plan on leaving the plant in the GH over the winter, but should I take it out in the summer? I am in Central Arkansas, Zone 7b.

Thanks, Nautical

The young bald vines do not root well at all. It is from those vines that the plant grows and will produce flowers and new leaves. There are a bunch of threads re: propagation here...suggest you catch up on them as they really contain a lot of great material from a lot of people!!!

Hey Nautical,
Looks like you have a variegated Hoya Carnosa - beautiful plant too! In my experience, your carnosa will end up with lots of blooms, and they normally grow with new growth. Don't cut them off when they've stopped flowering, as they will flower from there every year.
I agree with Carol (AlohaHoya) - bald vines don't root well. Make sure you have at least a couple of leaves and the vine before you start rooting. Carnosa's are fairly easy to root (I believe!).

Thanks for the help. I did find a link on Propagation so will give it a try.

I thought the bloom just developed across from one of the leaf nodes, but after studying it closer I realize it is from the end of a vine that I had looped up over the plant to get it out of the way. The vine wrapped itself around another vine and developed the bloom there. There are many of these vines hanging down under the plant now, so if I understand, I should not cut these off as they may develop blooms?

Thanks again for the help.

Correct, Nautical... A plant will also produce peduncles (blooming spurs) from older vines, but the BEST bet are the younger ones, once it starts blooming.

I just bought a beautiful plant that looks just like this one. I am so happy to hear that they should bloom a lot!

I looked the plant over a little closer now and it appears to me that on some of the vines that are hanging down there may have been the start of a bloom. "Peduncles"?? I will try and get a close up picture to post. They look dead and woody to me. Is it normal for them to start a bloom and then die? Or more likely I killed it. I just don't know what I did to cause it to die. (Nor do I know what I did that caused it to bloom! :-) )

Well..the answer to that would get me very rich very quickly!!! LOL.
