I'm pretty sure this is going to be a moth, It's been in this stage for about 1 1/2 weeks, How long does it stay at this form?
How long does it stay like this?...
I dunno, but yes, defintiely a moth, sphinx moth I believe, that might help in an info search.
Thanks, And yes, I think it's a sphinx moth too
Oh, well, I was no help then, sorry :)
Don't be sorry, You were a help, I 'think' it's a sphinx moth and you helped me feel more sure that it is.
Not sure what the weather is like in SC...but I've had moth cocoons eclose in days when they pupated in October. Others I've had that pupated in May took five months to eclose. That pupa looks very silimar in color and design to a Rustic Sphinx I raised.
On another note...since you have a pupa...you can try this:
Paul Villiard writes that if the fourth segment below the one covered by the bottoms of the wing cases is notched, lined, or broken in any way, the pupa is female. If the fourth segment below the one covered by the bottoms of the wing cases is intact, the pupa is always a male. (Paul Villiard - Moths and How To Rear Them).
