propagating true to form?

Chicago, IL

Hi -

I've got a begonia that probably had some watering problems - the bases of the stems rotted and I managed to just save one 'trunk' with three leaves. Anyhow, since one of the large leaves was OK before the stalk died, I chopped it up and put the pieces in dirt. I now have several baby leaves coming up, but noticed that a couple do not look like the parent (most do). I had also once found a damaged red begonia leaf at a Home Depot and stuck a piece in dirt at home - it made a new plant but it is not red at all, so I don't know if this is common or I did something weird. Thanks!

Are they rexes? If so, then this is very common for juvenile leaves to look different than when they mature. Even canes and rhizos can show some variation between young and older leaves.

Thanks - yes, they are rexes...I'll keep an eye on them and see what happens!
