Why is my Rose of Sharon producing white flowers?

Moline, IL(Zone 5a)

Someone told me that my soil my need some adjusting for it. Maybe more alkaline or acidity, not sure. I have tried to find the soil requirements for the Rose of Sharons, but no sure luck. The colors used to be pink and blue, but now some are white. The bushes are about 10 years old.

Could it be the hot weather we have had this summer? My double pink one was almost white everytime it bloomed.

they change or "mutate" from white to pink thus the name H. mutabilis

Rose of Sharon is Hibiscus syriacus, not H. mutabilis (H. mutabilis is also known as Confederate Rose)

Not sure if they mutate? Same roots should produce same plant colors. Seeds from them could be different colors.

I love the white R.O.S.'s!! Here's a picture of an old heirloom white R.O.S. It's growing in a patient's yard next to a light purple & pink R.O.S. All three trees are about 20 + ft. tall, and all 3 bloom the same three colors year after year. The white R.O.S. is a very bright pure all-white. This was the first true white R.O.S. I had ever seen. These plants were planted by my 82 yr. old patient's mother.

I wonder if you are right. What with the 90 degrees one week and the 40 degrees the next week. I think my plants are confused.

LOL
