CLOSED: Why I hate today

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I hate today because my kitchen table is covered with SASEs waiting for the mailman.

I hate today because the mailman is not going to come and get them.

I hate today because the mailman is not going to leave a whole new bunch of envelopes with me.

I hate today because it is a holiday celebrating a false "discovery" that occured at least 492 years after the "discovery" by the Norsemen, and at least one thousand years after the Chinese touched upon the Pacific shores of the Americas ... and all that falsehood is holding up the mail today.

Now, I'm going outside to water my frogs and beat up the weeds!

You are preaching to the choir :-)

I still haven't figured out what today is...don't look at a calendar very often. I do know that I was annoyed when I drove into town last night to mail my outgoing seed packs to people just eagerly waiting to receive them and saw that the 'building' mail slot was covered with plywood and I didn't want to drop my envies in the outside free standing mail boxes since some tweaker will try to get things out of the box or some miscellaneous vandals will pour something in there ......so I drove back into town early this a.m. so as to give my seeds the quickest send-off.....only to see that the P.O. is closed and my envies would still have to go in the freestanding boxes and sit in there probably all night, leaving them to the risks of the aforementioned perils. Nothing should stop the movement of seeds! LOL....

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

I'm using this holiday as an excuse to spend the day in my yard trying to button things up for the winter. It dropped to 31F last night, so time is running out to put my potted plants away and mulch them. The fact that I can't send out mail, and probably can't do any banking, just makes the day outdoors more guilt free.

Tucson, AZ

ahhhhh weez...it must be all that fresh air that makes you so perky...lol

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Yup, fresh, fresh air... so fresh you can see it when you exhale!

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

I hate today because I mailed a trade out last Thursday and they still haven't gotten it! And I mailed two trades out Sat. not knowing of this stupid holiday lol

When you don't work it's hard to keep up with these senseless holidays now don't you feel sorry for me cause I don't know what day it is lol I never look at the calendar what is that? lol

South/Central, FL(Zone 9a)

I hate today cause I can't get Lebugs flowers out of the P.O., so she doesn't have to worry. : )

Well now I know why the "darlings" down the street are home, and the book I put out for pick-up is still sitting there. Haha, maybe I need to get one of the nursing home calendars! I truly did not know today is a holiday.

Hey, I'll take any cooler weather you can spare, it is so humid here today my hair got wet when I went outside, and it isn't raining!

LazLo, I love your post because like Homer Simpson says about Seinfeld, "It's funny because it's true."

I love your post because it has a 'visual aid', a rarity in the seed trading forum.

I love your post because it caused some of DG's most generous traders to post.

I love your post because it reminds me that the Smithsonian has an exhibit proving the Japanese were in Ecuador a loooong time ago.

And I love your post because now I can stop wondering when the mail is going to show up.

Georgetown, IN(Zone 6a)

I just checked the mail---again--- wondering why the mail lady was so late today! LOL.

I went to town and I saw a guy sitting in his drive with a red, white and blue stars and stripes shirt on in a wheel chair with a sign 'ask me' I wish I wish I had taken the time to stop and talk with him but I was flying as usual.

everybody here is from somewhere else, except the native americans. This holiday should be their day now that everybody knows the truth. I dont think its taught in schools anymore.

I love today because all my working neighbors are off and outside and we get to chat for a change.

Jadajoy, OH sure, ruin a good mad with your cheery attitude!! LOL

Gosh I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who had difficulty figuring why the mail was late!!

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

it feels better if you simply celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving instead :-)

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

oh, gosh! it doesn't matter WHAT is being celebrated . . . won't make the post offices any more open, the carriers making their rounds, or envys showing up in my mailbox today!

right?

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

LOL

Springfield, MA(Zone 6a)

true . . . . lol

Too funny, y'all!!! Santa Don ..... You are killing me with your wit and humor!!!

Ahem, even the Native Americans are from someplace else. Via the Bering Strait or perhaps a number of other places according to what some genetic archeologists believe now. We're all from someplace else if you go back far enough, unless you happen to live in whatever spot in Africa or China, wherever the first humans evolved. And that's assuming that those humans never left and migrated back to that spot.

We could never get rid of a holiday like today. The retail stores wouldn't allow it. Holidays like today give them another reason to jack up their prices and then "mark them down" and have a "sale." Right? ;o)

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

I'm loving the fact that its a holiday Lazlo.. cause then I don't have to make up a story about not sending your seeds out on yet another day and the story would go like this:

Things have been so crazy and I trekked out an hours drive yesterday morning to the Growers Outlet garden center store and filled my minivan with treasures galore and then stopped by a Lowe's on the way back home to check out their clearance rack and I got these awesome clearance plants!! :) And I talked down the price too.. since I was taking them all and they looked bad. Then.... I noticed ALL the evergreen shrubs in the whole place were 50% off! (Due to extreme drought and water restrictions.. and I just got my well installed so I have irrigation water.. ) My heart be still! I got some (more than what I already own) tea olives and some camellias.. I love those things!! :) So.. I had to plant my little heart out all morning and take care of the kids when they got home... But trust me, your seeds aren't in the mail today due to the holiday.... :) Totally..!! and they will be tomorrow.. Seriously!! Do you believe me??

I'm a garden crack addict. If there is a crack, I need to fill it with a plant.

Try doing trades when the lazy postmen go on strike! I wouldnt mind but they earn loads for essentially putting paper in holes! A 4 year old could do it!

As for Holidays... i have to work when everyone over here is having the public holiday! Now thats just not fair!

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Wait just a minute.. everyone who works for a govt office got the day off.. The rest of us still worked!! My kids went to school.. and business was as usual!

As far as going on strike.. they don't do that here.. They just, well.. we refer to it as going "postal"

going postal... heheh .. i like that!

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Because getting mail (seeds and plants)is one of the highlights of my day, I keep a good relationship with my mailman. If something comes in after my delivery he will swing by and drop it off knowing it might be persihable. At the end of the year I try to always remember him with a gift for all he has done for me throughout the year.

My father always said " You can catch more flies with honey". Being on good terms and trying to keep a good rapor just makes good sense.

( ducking from all the naysayers throwing tomatoes)
