I was considering a new thread that will serve as the place to post something that doesn't really fit any of the other threads - sort of like Andy's Daily Musings used to be. We can call it 'Miscellaneous' or 'Other' or 'Whatever' or anything else we come up with. It can be a place to talk about anything, garden-related or not. Examples - work, family, other hobbies, something about the garden that doesn't fit existing threads, etc.
What do you think?
I'll start with a gripe. I'm having trees removed this morning and I went out to check on things and found they crushed one of my favorite shrubs - Bottlebrush Buckeye - with the limbs from one of the trees!! It's a beautiful shrub that of course grows slowly. It was about 5 1/2 feet tall and provided screening. Now it's about 2 1/2 feet and needs further pruning. Grrrrrrrrr!!!
New thread??
VFFFGGG??
MMMMMPPPHHHHGGGGG?
(As in the sound one makes with hands over the mouth?)
Seriously Victor. Will they pay for the damage to the bush? That's horrid!!
Not sure if I'll push that since I did get a very good price for the job.
But still ....
one of your prize bushes? How can you stand not to?
It's not easy, believe me. They're still working so I'm afraid to look.
I thought they were all 'whatever', I'll get the hang of this some day.
Too bad for your Buckeye.
No complaints except for the hot weather here.
Yes - that's why we need a better place for whatever!
How's your rain situation, Al? Have you been as dry as us?
Rain's OK.
Don't forget the thread that you, Dave and I are supposed to only post in per Pirl.
that IS a funny pic Al
Nice house Al. Could you come work on mine?
My 10 year old DD is getting impatient for them to finish that house - over a year now. Back in the old days it was nothing for a house to take a few years to build.
You're on your own, I'm running out of daylight to do my yardwork.
Drat! How bout just the moat??
Are you sure Victor can't swim?
Not a worry there. Last I read Harper has Victor entwined with his keyboard. So about that moat? :~) High water table here too.........if you start now before the freeze...............
I love that funny picture, Al. How did you get them to pose like that???
Nice house. Can we have the next NE Forum RU there?
They were just like that. I kind of wondered it they did that so when they all take off they wouldn't run in to each other.
Well I have nothing to gripe about in this post but I thought I would share something I am really excited about. I am doing a special project as a xmas gift to my parents. I am totally redoing and decorating their bedroom. New paint, new bedding, and new decor......I am starting on a few things today and then new weekend I am painting!!! Since my parents are the type to buy what they want when they want it is never easy to shop for them but this is something I can do that I know they wouldn't do for themselves....it is an expensive project but well worth it and I am so excited about it!
I think that is a lovely idea - but I doubt I would ever let my daughters decorate my bedroom. The eldest would do everything in brown and the younger daughter would do everything black goth, with lots of swords and dragons. I'd rather the dragons and sword than brown, but really I would prefer a bedroom that looked like a garden . . .
Gripe: Last weekend 84degrees...today, prime the furnace and turn it on, it was 36degrees upon leaving work...Global warming, surely you jest.
I have lots to cut down, over 200 daffs to plant, about $500 or so worth of plants to really "heel" in for the winter, and I thought I'd have a little bit more of warmish weather to do it...HAH...HAH...and HAH...I'm gonna have to do that this week.
And rain...RAIN...during the best time to rain, it didn't, now it's been downpouring for about 4 days now. I have an ash can that has runneth(sp?) over with rain water...I don't think there are enough explatives to really type here, without offending everyone, to describe correctly my anger over the craziness of the weather...
Hope everyone is having fun!
Victor, if they did that to one of my shrubs, I would dig up some ground ivy, or running bamboo, and plant it in their yards.
No one has weighed in on whether the 'Misc.' thread is a good idea or not! Oh well.
I'll gong the misc. thread. The winter coffee threads have covered that pretty well. You could brew a new thread.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/742293/
Well that was just my point - the 'Coffee' and 'Musings' threads have seemed to disappear. I don't want to step on anyone's toes by reviving them. Isn't that against DG etiquette or something?!! Maybe we can create a 'Coffee Muse' thread.
Coffee muse? I just thought that barista was quiet!
You restart coffee, I've even started it once and I try not to start threads here.
Why not?
i'll use this thread to ask a couple of questions...
do celosias grow well from seed?
does anyone want any celosia seed?
i just found out where they make them - and boy do i have a LOT! They are "Kimono Red."
Do mums just keep getting bigger? All the tags on the mums that i see say how fat to space them, but not how tall they'll get. A couple of the ones the landlords bought last summer are HUGE now, and splitting into parts. i divided one today - no idea really if you're supposed to, but it seemed to want to divide itself, so what the heck.
i bought a couple cute little (4" pot) daisy-style mums this year. Are they going to be that big? Or is that why you're supposed to pinch them till mid-July, which i didn't hear about doing to the older ones until August when they were budding?
anybody want some mums?
can i move a daylily fan i planted a few weeks ago, which is putting out new growth already? i really wish i hadn't put it there.
if a daylily puts out a proliferation (is that what they're called?) on a scape, and no one does anything to it, will it just die back?
that's all for now - i bet i'll have more!
y'all are nicer than the beginner forums...

Victor, I like the idea of starting up a new 'musings' or 'coffee' thread. How about 'water cooler'? Or 'Gazebo talk'? We do need a little chatty thread for us here in the NE. I can't keep up with the 'what's blooming' threads. I love the pictures though.
Amy, I don't know about planting mums, except that the general florists mums aren't hardy for this area. Pirl or Celeste could probably help you with the daylilies. Good luck!
Harper
I'll answer one part Amy. On the Daylily proliferations - yes, they will just die if not cut and planted.
Thanks Harper. I'll go ahead and start one then. 'Water cooler' is nice.
o good.
i stole a proliferation from an area near a doctor's building. no one takes care of them much, and when i saw it growing there, i couldn't resist.
now i feel less guilty.
: )
Go forth and proliferate!! (In deep bass voice, as if from on high.)
i want a thread on here for questions!
i may have more than the average NE forum gardener, but i must not be the only one. Everybody's growing something they don't know much about... But sometimes these questions get lost in the threads somewhere.
And it seems like this group has such a rapport that i'd SO rather ask y'all than on the other forums. i know that if it's some really obscure type thing there are forums to go to for just about every kind of plant.
Or am i just being a pain - should i stick with asking on the newbie forum?
the always curious/frequently clueless...
