Day Dreams :)
I know the first "real" flush doesn't always put out perfect blooms because the plant is still trying to get "organized," and of course the 90 degree weather we've been having doesn't help either. But, she certainly does show potential, doesn't she?
Look who's starting to put on her first show....
I know how exciting this is for you. I had one of my brugs finally bloom not too long ago. I wasnt aware of "flush" but I did figure that the more it bloomed the better each one got. They look beautiful!
That is a beautiful good flush, with the kind of weather we've had.
Mine is blooming, a real deep dbl. pink, love it.
Gloria
She is gonna be a show stopper Felicia! Good for you! Soooo pretty!
Thanks! Actually, I can't wait to see her this evening because I know she'll be "pinker" and shaping up more.
I'm just very grateful to the wonderful DG'er who was kind enough to give me this cutting last fall. :)
wow....I thought mine was getting pretty!! That is really nice....question...mine is only blooming on one limb now....why is that? Could it be cause it's only a year old??
G, that's where brugs get weird. :) In order for a brug to bloom, it must form a "Y." What that means is when the main stem branches in two, it forms a "Y." Ok, just took a picture to show what a "Y" looks like. Sorry so green, don't know what's up with that. But, see where the main stem branches and makes two? That's a "Y."
Good for you does my heart good to see someone with a double blooming so profusley (i cant spell anymore) Very nice looking brug!
Looking good, Felicia. Bet by now she is opening up well for you.
Shirley, she's starting to. :) It was 92 today, and I'm sure that had an effect on her. Tomorrow, the high is supposed to be around 80 with um, what is that stuff again, oh yeah, RAIN!!! So, I know that'll help. He's a picture tonight, and I'm sure I'll be out first thing in the a.m. to take more. Actually, should probably start a new thread with everything in bloom. When I walk outside now, the scent from all the brugs is almost overwhelming. :)
Day Dreams is my favorite double pink! To me she's easy care and when she blooms she reminds you why you do all you do to keep these plants going.
Wow...she should be pretty as heck tomorrow with cooler temps. I hope mine blooms before frost. She's gearing up right now.
You know, this is all bittersweet for me. Maybe it'll be different next year, since she'll be established then. But, this year, with her first flush ending up on the ground, and waiting for a "real" flush, it's kinda sad to see, if that makes any sense at all. I've waited all year to see her bloom. Now, that she's in the middle of it, I kinda hate to see it happen, because the anticipation is gone, and I know I'll have to wait several long months to get her to this point again. Is that silly, or what? At least she'll be looking really nice tomorrow evening when Scott FINALLY comes home. :) Not that he'll notice, but it's a good thought anyway. :)
Drag him out there to look. LOL! He might surprise you, too, and mention your plants before you have a chance to say anything. I'm sure you will be glad to have him home again.
Thanks, Shirley. :) Actually, Scott was kinda funny a few weeks ago -- mind you, this is a man who has not seen a hummingbird before coming to my place, let alone pay attention to plants; and I won't even go into the butterflies I'm raising in the house. Anyway, I was cooking out, and Scott was on the patio, and he looked around and said, you know, with this drought and hot weather we've been having, you've done a great job with your plants because they look so good. Now, to have him actually comment on a bloom (he didn't even bat an eye when Miss Emily McKenzie was in bloom), naw, it will never happen. I'll definitely drag him outside, though!! And, yes, I can't wait to see him, because he's been in Europe for two long weeks, with very little communication.
I'd have called in "sick" and taken the day off!
Nice. Makes me wish we had lots of warm weather left. Get ready...we are having high winds now. They should be in Indiana before long.
uh, thanks, Shirley. You're certainly generous with the wind but not the rain. LOL!! Just looked at the forecast, and sure enough, gusts up to 25 mph tomorrow night. That must be our very short lived cold front moving in, cause by the weekend, we'll be up in the mid 70's.
Gloria, I wish I could have called in sick. Unfortunately, one of my attorneys did that yesterday, and piled it on me today. :( Oh well, the weekend is coming up, right? Hopefully, all the blooms will last that long. :)
Oh my GAWD she is beautiful.. I'm so happy for you Felicia! That is an awesome sight.. Nice early birthday present for ya!
SSHHHH!!! Not so loud with the birthday talk. ;) Actually, bet I have lots of early birthday presents today in addition to Day Dreams! Thanks, she is very pretty, isn't she? I just love the shade of pink. Now to think of some horrible songs for your thread....
In a very nice way, mind you, I'm jealous, but also very proud for you.
I've got my first flush but she decided to do a "triple skirt" act and her skirts stayed stuffed too long. We've experienced really high temperature and drought. I've had to turn a mister on the brugs during the time of the day when they got sun, some got morning sun, some evening sun.
I'm hopeful that we will have warm weather long enough for her to flush again.
Thank you Brugie for all your kindness to so many people.

indiana_lily,
Oh! how I wished I had a plant on the top of your wish list to trade with you for a cutting of this raving beauty!!!!
Congratulations on doing what it took to produce this one ! It demands several return looks.
Louise
Thank you Judy. Like you, we are suffering drought too -- at least 9 inches below normal rainfall for the season. And, we had many, many days in the 100+ degree range. Just yesterday, it was 92. It has been a long, painful growing season for everyone, most importantly, the farmers. I've been lucky because they never put water restrictions on us, and my water bill is never over $22 a month, even with all the watering I do.
Louise, I'd love to share more cuttings of Day Dreams than I can at this point, really I would. Unfortunately, because of her shape, and the length of her stems, I'm very limited to what I can do as far as cuttings. :( I'm surprised she made it through the overwintering, and then all the cats that loved her this summer. She's tall, but the stems on the "Y's" are short, which really disappoints me because that means I cannot share her like I would want to. Thanks for the kudos for taking care of her. :) Except for the cats, she's done great. No spidermites, like some others, takes the full sun in 100+ weather very well, and she's pretty much a trooper.
Confirmation here on "no spider mites". Last year we had an infestation due again to high temps and drought which killed off their natural enemy ..... I slashed and burned many brugs, but "she" never got any.

Wow.. that puts her over the top for performance! I love the ones that are resistant to mites.. makes life so much nicer!
Now to make them cat resistant.. This morning I found a caterpillar eating the stamen out of Whiskers! Go figure!
Such a pretty Brug!!
Maybe the cat was trying to keep Whiskers from having babies? That is weird!
Well, DD is still a cat magnet, though. :( But, I'd rather have cats than mites any day of the week!!
Here she is today .... a little sad, but still very pretty. I don't think it ever got out of the 50's. Oh, and it was windy. :) And to think on Monday, it was 93!
There surely is a lot to smile about there!!!
Judy
Ooh how dainty!!! I love that, Indiana Lily!
Ohhhh Mamma Mia! She's a beauty!
