Chicken Sickness.........Anyone heard of these symptoms???

Monroe, GA

I have a friend who is having a problem with some of his birds. He breeds Gamefowl (Greys and Hatch) and has for many, many years. Recently they have started molting and a few have been running fevers, chasing their tail feathers, and trying to fight themselves. All are in individual ground pens (which he has always used) and no new birds brought in. He has dusted/dipped them, ran antibiotics for a week and even went as far as to give them children's tylenol (for the fever in their legs and rears) a couple of times. Has anyone else ever had a problem like this or heard of it?? He sent off a couple of his cocks to a vet for further testing but thought I would post here to see if someone else knew.

check the classroom at the coop website. They are great with this sort of stuff.

hmmm, if you find out what the vet says please let me know i'd be very interested to know. i have a silkie hen doing something similar. she is squaking to herself and spining in circles chaseing her tail and broody but will not nest she acts like she has lost her mind or something or her brain is fried. she acts as if she doesn't know the others is there. i can't get her to break of being broody. she shows no signs of being sick, no fever no nothing that i can tell it's just really weird. she has only been doing the spinning for the last week. half the time i don't think she even know's i'm there unless i pick her up then she still acts weird and does a weird head jerking almost like she is dizzy.

so please if you find any info on what it maybe let me know. there is no poultry vets here noone will even see them where i live only horses, pigs and livestock and household pets.
thanks,
silkie
