Hi everyone, it seems like every year around this time I find myself wandering back into this forum. I've gotten most of my outside garden put to bed for the winter and it's time for AVs again. This is one of my favorite forums, I don't know why I don't visit more often and keep up with all of you. I guess that just goes to show how goofy I am! :)
So, I'm hoping to go shopping this evening and pick up an AV or two. Nothing too fancy, just whatever they have at Wal-Mart. I have found some nice ones there before though, even ones with pink variegated leaves! OoooOOoohhh! But, why is it that every time I buy a new AV I want a new pot too? I have lots of empty pots here on hand. Is that kinda like having 20 pairs of black leather shoes (and how men just can't understand that)?
Every single time I look at an AV I'm so thankful for this forum and all the folks in it. I was never able to grow AVs until I learned all the great tips from y'all. :)
AV Time Again!
We feel just like you do........................anything that i do know about avs and the rest of the gesneriad family I learned right here!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know, isn't it great?!
My shopping trip has been put off till tomorrow...but that's ok. Maybe we'll get to someplace better than WM. Someday I'm going to order from a real AV seller, like Rob's. Now THAT's the good stuff!!
Trading is often better than the vendors here on the AV forum...........the nicest avs I have I got from trading with the av lovers right here.................
I know, I just don't have much to trade. I'm also impatient for those blooms!
You don't grow by leaf??????? That is how I got started with having something to grow..........to trade.............there are several good sites on line for leaves...............look in the Garden Watchdog.........Velvet leaf and many more...............
Oh yeah, I grow by leaf...learned how right here! I just don't have the patience to wait for those little babies to bloom.
As soon as I get a new AV home I usually give it a haircut while I'm repotting it and pot up any leaves that are cut off. Of course, I usually end up giving those away to friends.
isn't that half the fun in growing anyway.........................
Oh yes! Half the fun in growing them is watching them develop little baby leaves from a big Mama leaf...and giving them away and helping someone else understand how to grow them better.
I still don't get my leaves cut close enough so I end up with double crowns all the time...which doesn't bother me at all. Just another plant to pot up and give away!
