I just won an auction on eBay for this brug. It is listed under the name "Flamenco" but it sure doesn't look like the "Flamenco" in the PlantFiles. Does anyone know what this one is? Any experience out there?
Weird but beautiful
I'm not experienced but the photo is poor, I'm sorry if you took the photo, I'm not trying to be rude but... It's been enlarged or was taken out of focus.. can you post a pic from farther back? Is a pretty bloom,,,,, I think it resembles the one in the plant files..

It may or may not be Flemenco. It is difficult to tell from the photo. Did that photo come off the auction page? It doesn't show the corolla neck and the location of the calyx, both important in Brug identification. Even if it showed the entire bloom, PlantFiles only has one photo and that is one a bloom in a younger stage. You may have to wait until it blooms for you and see if the blooms resemble the PlantFiles photo.
I tried to save the photo from eBay and then attach it to the question but could not do that. So I printed it out, scanned it, and cut off all the eBay wording, before I posted it.
AuntB, I just won it on eBay, it has not even been shipped yet, so I won't be able to take a pic until next year, when it blooms (I hope). It is a rooted cutting.
Very pretty, brug! Have you won auctions from the seller before?
not this one, but he had a good rating. I have bought from tctopcat, though, recommended by others here.
The color is exactly right for Flamenco.
It is very pretty, I also have purchased from Tctopcat, he seems very reliable.
I like it very much. I have no idea about the color it should be though.
Duh!? I apologize to Tctopcat, but the pic on ebay is kind of blurry, too. I was surfing the web looking for an entirely different pic of Flamenco, and was not successful, but both dave's and Tctopcat's are beautiful blooms. AND I don't have one with that shape....... I'm glad for everyone's positive feedback here for Tctopcat. Please post bloom pics when you get them, Woodspirit1 and have fun anxiously anticipating.
I checked the picture on Daves, but those blooms are not all the way open, I think it could be the same plant.
I've seen that same photo used by several ebay sellers... If that is what you end up with, it sure is pretty!
The photo in the PlantFiles looks pinker than this, which looks kinda orangey, doncha think?
Anyway, I bought it mainly because it look unusual. I paid a bit more than usual so I sure hope it looks like the picture.
Can we use Plant Files photos if we get permission? I have a few things that I need a pic for?
Teresa
well, gone2seed, I really like that pic. I think I will be happy with this plant if it survives. Thanks.
Now if I could just find Mountain Magic.

I will have some cuttings of Flamenco from a start that was given to me at the RU last fall 2006. I have a large plant now with two tall branches. I had three or four blooms that tried to open back when we were having a big heat wave. They only opened half-way.
I'm not sure of the best way to mail them since the postage rates have increased so much.
Louise
There are 2 ways to make sure you get the postage right. If you have a little food scale or a postage scale, you should be able to get an idea. I used an old Weight Watchers food scale and set the cutting and the package on top and then called the post office to get the rate. You can ask the person your shipping it to, to prepay you with Paypal.
But the easiest way is to just ship it to them and let them pay you what the actual postage is. Or do a swap.
I would like some of your Flamenco cuttings if you want to trade. I have Solid Gold (an orange), Amber rose (a peach), and Satin rose (deep pink). My Dr. Seuss has been less than wonderful so I do not want to trade it yet. Oh, I also have Charles Grimaldi.
The best, and easiest way is to get free boxes from the Post Office for FLAT RATE that means you know what the cost is and you can stuff it as full as you want with no increase in the postage, you can get three differen t sizes, I get the one that costs $8:85 to mail you can get a lot of nice long cuttings in that one.
I forgot about that, thank you kareoke. The small would do for one or two cuttings, I'm sure. Is the flat rate box shipped as priority mail? I sure wouldn't want one that went parcel post for plants or cuttings.
Oh my goodness---how beautiful!!! I'm suffering brug/zone envy!!!
Jan
Well, I hope this one I bought survives because it wasn't cheap but looks like I would love it.
JanLynn, can you raise some in big pots?
Ahhhhhh *drooling*
Flamenco is very very beautiful!
I'm gonna try to remember to come back next year and post pics of this brug if it survives and blooms for me.
You can grow them in pots. I grew them for several years in pots but you do have to remember to water them well. They also don't get as big in pots.
okay,,,being a newbie,,,,,,,
I thought you were just typing it wrong,,,what is a brugman? i thought you might have meant shrub,,my bad
And what the heck do you do with a cutting? plop it into some dirt? quench my thirst for the do it yourselfer know how!..........
JMR
Lou, if you trade with woodspitit1, I would go for Satin Rose. We can fix you up with the rest.

lol, it's brugmansia, the latin name for Angel's Trumpets. Although we do have several folks here at Dave's Garden with brug in their names.
Hey, has anyone seen monika lately?
janemarierose, monika is a grower and breeder in Germany. She has some wonderful brugs (foreshortened nickname) and can take credit for many, great new varieties.
Who else here cross-breeds brugs?
Kenboy,
Thanks for the advice and the generousity!
woodspirit,
I think everyone here who grows brugs tries to cross their best ones, hoping to get a super fantastic one from the seeds. I've even tried crosses of Maya to a dark pink and hope to get a pink with variegated leaves - and a cross of the dark pink to Golden Lady and hope to get a beautiful double pink. I see several seed pods forming and hope I remember the ones I fertilized and the ones that the moths and butterflies got to. We shall see ------------

woodspirut1 YES the boxes all go Priority with a tracking number, almost every box I have sent arrives within three days.
woodspirit1-
I grow most of my tropicals in pots, easier to "tote" the plants around. I did have my brug planted in the ground but it was not growing/thriving like it is now. I did put water crystals in the pot to help keep the brug from drying out. Another advantage of having my tropicals in pots is that when I fertilize I know that most of it will stay in the pot and not run-off. A guy I work with gave me 3 black nursery pots that had tree saplings in---they each took 200#s of amended soil to fill (I didn't dig the pots into the ground). I'm planning on putting a brug standard in 2 of them (1 on each side of my Tropical Garden) and then putting an underplanting around the brugs trunk. If people thought my TG looked good this year just wait til next year!!!
Just "ME"...Jan
