Hi everyone! Here are some pictures of the gang, all grown up!
I have a couple that I am wondering about, gender wise. They are all 5 months old, so I should be able to tell...
So to start off, here in Inspector Flecks, the accidental roo that my mother gave me. He was supposed to be a girl, but what can you do? He's very handsome.
and amorous. always amorous.
But, he hardly ever crows! That's why he is here, he annoyed my father too much with his crowing and had to be rehomed with me. But here, he leaves that mostly to General Tso, our head silkie roo.
Updates from Coop D'Etat are we boys or girls?
All very nice !!
Siddhartha looks rooish to me, but I could be wrong... happens all the time.

WOW What a bunch of great looking chooks! And those names! you are very creative. I have to start naming the ones I am definitely keeping and I too hope my maran hens (6 of them) start laying soon too!
I bet you will get an egg very soon from the Maran that was layin down today. She was definately doin' her own thing.
From our silkies, two have really big ears, really big wattles and really big combs. Those turned out to be the boys. The others have very small ears, wattles and combs and those all seem to be girls. I can't say it's the rule but how it worked out here. We separated the white silkies out because the white roo became aggressive and we've not gotten any eggs from them. I'm not sure when they start laying.
Inspector Flecks looks to be a speckled sussex?
Oh, one of our buff silkies does not have a crest either! She does though have ear tufts or a beard. I can't remember right off but I'm sure she is a female.
Some of our birds started laying at 17 weeks on the dot! I had to laugh because somewhere I read, depending on the breed, they start laying at 17-30 weeks.
I had to come correct myself. Now I know what a silkie egg looks like and I'm sure a white silkie laid it. ;) Ours are 24 weeks. This is the first egg since we moved the white silkie to their own home three days ago.
Yes, the inspector is a speckled sussex. He is named Inspector Flecks as a joke because he is flecked, but also b/c he came to me due to the inflexibility of my dad! He really didn't want a rooster. So, it is a little pun :)
Sidd is looking more like a roo each day. Maybe he can be a good husband for Lora's good black hen. We'll see.
I'm really ecvited to get my pastel and my dark brown egg from my two big pullets!
Giggling about your joke. Glad you could keep the Inspector!
I make fun of our white silkie male because he has little horns sticking up above his comb. The thing really looks like a devil! He has one on one side and two on the other.
Congrats on the eggs!
