Our New Babies

Pueblo West, CO

I have really enjoyed reading all the posts on this forum. I'm happy to say that we are now the proud owners of four Frizzle chicks that are now 4 weeks old. And yesterday we added two Silkie chicks to our backyard zoo. Does anyone know the colors these Silkie's will be when grown?

And here is a pic a took about a week ago of the Frizzle's. Boy, have they grown since this pic.

The 2nd one must be a blue colored. I have about a half a dozen blue chickens. Mine are Cochin, Orpington, Ameraucana and 2 hens that are 50% crosses between Cochin & Welsumer.

She is beautiful. At what age were you able to tell if she was a rooster or hen?

The one on the right might also end up being a splash. the one on the left might be a really dark partridge.

I might have a roo for you Lora! He'd be a younger man! lol!

It is becoming increasingly obvious who is a roo and who is a hen in the past few weeks. All my chicks are from a hatch in very late April and it is only recently that some have started crowing and other just look like roosters all of a sudden. :) Crowing and egg laying are the ways that you will know for sure, but you might be able to figure it out before hand.

I ended up with 4 white hens, one buff hen, one dark buff hen, one black hen, the partridge I thought was a hen till today is a rooster! and roosters are one white, 2 partridge (lightercolored) and 4 reds.

I'm hoping that mine are hens. I guess I'm just going to have to be patient and wait to see what their sex and color will be. I would love it if the one was a splash though.

His butt now this was taken recently. He was the tanner of the two, the bluer one looks just like him but slightly smaller and his under coat is bluer

Decided to get one more so we'd have a trio. We are really enjoying these babies. Daughter has named them Sky, Sunshine and Shadow.

Hi Sunny, This is a pic of my 4 silkies. I'll post one as day old baby chicks, and what they are now. They are all blues, but 3 are splash-like. Just for you for reference.

I am told that they can lay anytime between 5 and 6 months.....but that some are even later as a result of the breeding people do trying to reach show quality. Thats just what i was told. However, when you buy a chicken that is already laying, i believe the shock of the new environment and such can cause them to stop laying for a while. I dont know why, but i am thinking a couple of weeks......so i must have read that.Be patient.
