Need advice !! I planning to add more chickens to my yard. I've been reading up on different kinds but would like to hear some other opinions. I have leghorns, game, dark cornish and guineas now that run the yard. I close up the heavy breeds at night and the guineas and game rooster go up in the trees.
I wanting to get good layers that are sweet and play well with others. Which my leghorns are sweet until it comes to feeding time then they fight each other, the goat and dogs.
I'm leaning towards Barred Rocks. But have thought about R.I.R. or more leghorns.
They have to lay or my husband will put me in the coop he says if we are going have them they need to earn their keep. I may be headed off the the sale tomorrow to see if there are any young healthy birds.
Ok is this odd ? I was standing out in the yard Wednesday and my game rooster jumped on my Guinea and started breeding it, I thought the Guinea he got was a male but I may have been mistaken. So now I confessed and shocked. Just can't get that picture out of my head.
Thanks in advance,
Dixietoad

Which would be best ?
Roosters will mate anyone who looks even a little willing. :)
I love my barred rock. She is my best gal.
I also like my buff orpington.
My silver laced wyandottes are really really mouthy and standoffish.
that's my two cents. :) hope it helps
I had the same thing happen with my guinea and he was a male! It happened more than once and i had plenty of hens for the rooster. Nature is strange sometimes.
