As a newbie to this amazing plant, I have fussed for two years over my germinating seeds, then my baby plants, then dealing with overwintering and dormancy, bringing them back from the dead this spring, and repotting and fertilizing experimentally. It's been a fascinating challenge, and the help and support from contributors on this forum has made it so much easier. So of course I want to share the amazing results of this journey.
I've posted photos of this lovely specimen throughout her growth. Now she is in full flower, a spectacle of glory! The fragrance at night is a citrusy-anise that makes me want to bed down beside her!
Voluptuous blooms at last!
WOW, whatever fertilizing program you experimented with certainly paid off in the amount of blooms you have on each plant. I like the last one, pink/orange.

Very nice indeed! Would you look at the buds on there! Yeeowee!
the Eventide X Butterfly has such huge blooms!! And, I bet they do take command of your neighborhood -- as they should. They are all very nice, and you should be very proud of your accomplishments with these very pretty brugs. :)
Quote: "a spectacle of glory!" Quite right, and nothing like a Brug in a full flush to turn a normal person into a full fledged Brugmansia Addict. Congratulations on your plants, and may they give you and your neighbors many years of pleasure.
Mary
Congratulations!! Your brugs are beautiful and all your hard work and patience paid off!!

In addition to the beautiful blooms, I like the size of your plants. They seem to be more at eye level and therefore easy to see and enjoy.

Thanks for your kind comments. The first one (whitish pink) suffered in a windstorm and lost her two front pranches, but the others held strong and in the cooler weather are lasting well, and still full of fragrance.
Now I have to decide whether to take cuttings or try to winter over the plants... TREES they are, now!
Gosh, your pictures are all pretty. I love the cap of blooms on the last one and the color is nice. Congrats on having such nice looking plants. Bet you are really enjoying them.
Those are lovely! What do you fertilize with? Nice!
WOW I am so jelaous! What a grand show you are having.
Mine are starting to put on a show but shoot, it is so cool here the colors are pale.
It's cool here too, Kell, but they seem to prefer it. I feed 15-30-15 weekly and they just keep pumping out the blooms. The fragrance at night is intoxicating. More photos to come. I'm running on the edge of frost now.
Thanks Andycdn, I'll have to get some to feed mine! I've just been giving mine the miracle grow in a bottle that fits on the hose. It seems to like it. It's really growing and putting out all kinds of leaves, but no blooms yet. Hopefully next spring!
Thanks!
Jeanne
See Andy, it just goes to show the theory you should give your brugs low phosphorous fertilizer is not necessarily true. I used to spray the old Miracle Grow which was 15-30-15 and I coud see instant results. With the new formula I see nothing happening!
Oh I sure hpe the frost stays away!! I will check back to see your new photos!
I have tons of buds too at this late date. I have no humidity and I think humidity helps develop the darker colors.
Andy, how long did they take to bloom from seed? I have a seedling that is only about 3" tall. Curious to know when it would bloom....if it lives.....? Thanks!
Texasgal: One thing I have learned is that these are TREES. They need big root space to match their top growth. The bigger the pot, the better the top growth and flowers. And they are very hungry. Feed them at least weekly, preferably twice a week, with lots of 15-30-15 (sure worked for me).
I am still fertilizing even in October as the weather cools, and they are pumping out new buds. I'm going to push the limits to see how much cold they can take it. The fragrance in our cool nights is ravishing. The blooms are a little shrivelled, but the buds keep coming out.
What an adventure!
I've also noticed that my Strawberry Creme x ? budded without a Y, and continues to bud and bloom over time rather than in a flush. And she does indeed smell like strawberries and cream. I can't keep my nose away from her! When I'm wathcing a TV show, I race out to smell her during the commercials.
My "Kell" has budded (Rosamond x Rothkirch) and may bloom before the frost... I have my hopes up. She had loads of buds last fall but the frost came early and none opened.
Any signs of a brug addict noticeable here?
Andrew
OMG Andy, how nice!! I bet those neighbors of yours are eating their humble pie now!!
Definately!! When did you plant the seeds?
Your trees are amazing!!
Andy, just lucious. Your hard work and experimentation really paid off. What a show!
