I am visiting my son in Boulder, CO and saw this beauty in a local nursery. They had no idea which one it was but I know someone here will know. The flower was a good 8" or 9".
Sadly, the plant was too large to box up and send home.
Saw this one yesterday
its beautiful, whatever it is!
I would say it's Amazon Queen, one of the Barry's.
Regards
Carlos
That sounds quite likely - did it have a Hines sticker on it?
YEs, Carlos. Amazon Queen it is.
Barry
Oh, and what a beauty it was, it was a very large plant and I am still sorry I couldn't pack it up and being it home on the plane. :-(
Thanks Carlos and Barry.
Big SIGH here, another for the wants list - and I live in the "No Hines" zone.
Just beautiful, Alice. And those are my colors, pink and orange.
Here is what we did when we went to the begonia convention to transport all our plants we bought. We got a huge tupperware thingie from HD. Then rolled the plants tight in newspaper and laid them on their side in the plastic tub. We stacked them and filled the container. I know 3 people who bought these and then taped them closed with electrical tape and brought them on their plane like that. It really is a cheap and great way to transport plants.
Hmmm, I never thought of a separate container. I always used to take a separate empty suitcase for that very purpose but this plant was large. It was in a 3 gallon pot and it was about 3' tall and almost as wide. Bet I could have stuffed it into a large plastic container by bending a few branches here and there.
Can't you just imagine the look on Phil's face? He is already thinking I am ready for the funny farm because I sent rocks home from Boulder in those flat rate boxes. (Hey, I live on an island and the biggest rock around here is a grain of sand.)
