I've planted roughly 8 million pansies so far, love the winter pansies :-)
Any other sure-fire easy-care winter annuals I should know about? I haven't quite gotten used to planting in the fall yet, it's fun!
Thanks!
Some buddies for my pansies?
are you wanting something that will last through winter or until the first frost?
something that will last through the winter.
well the only thing that i know of is pansies, you can do ornamental kale, cabbage but it wont make it through the whole winter
ornamental kale, cardoons (type of artichoke), winterbor and red bor will all last all winter here.
here snapdragons are winter annuals
snappies are winter annuals here - awesome!
i actually have a big pot of rockets - they are my "daughter's plant". my 6yo wanted a pot of her own, so i got her some snaps. they're a great kiddie plant (hard to kill, kids think deadheading is fun)
glad to hear it'll last throug winter!
tresarivers-diehard is in zone 9a! lol we are in a colder zone.... most landscapers won't use them as they look awful thru most of the winter (if they live). But in late March would be a good time to plant them outside (established plants, not seedlings)
ahhh..didn't catch that. :-(
You can still experiment with them-put some out now and see how they go thru the winter-if we have a mild winter, then they might make it. Try some more in late March too-and then let us know how they do-I would be interested to know
tres-heres another one you can try-swiss chard 'bright lights'. I just pulled some for an order and thought about you! Not sure how they look in the dead of winter-it has been awhile since I have grown this, but a few landscapers wanted it-
I've had luck with veronica umbrosa (speedwell). "Georgia Blue", here in 8a. Blooms most of the winter.
