Since this is the first year I have planted pumpkins I am not sure when to pick my one and only off of the vine. It is all orange, doesn't seem to be growing any more and sounds hallow when thumped. Is it ready? If I pick it now, will it stay ok until late Oct. for carving?

It should be ok from your description. At any rate pick it when a hard frost is predicted, which should be pretty soon in your area. Store it in a cool dry place, but don't set it directly on concrete.
