I've been wanting to pull up my tired old zinnia plants because the leaves have gotten so mildewed and ugly, but it keeps putting out more blossoms, so I've been putting the chore off. Just decided to go ahead and do it, and found these fuzzy cats chewing on the leaves (yucky with mildew as they are). Any ideas what these guys will be?
Fuzzy yellow bear cats, what will they be?
Thea-
your camera focused on the zinnia instead of the cat. Any way you can re-shoot?
Adrienne
The Yellow Bears will become the Virginia Tiger Moth...the cats are adorable.
Well Fly, looks like you've done it again!!! It's so funny because I thought this cat looked familiar, and the name Yellow Bear did too, and I just realized now that you had identified a similar cat for me that my sister found on her liatris up in CT!!! I hope I get to see the moth once it ecloses, it looks very pretty!!! Thanks again for your help!!!
Thea, this article is interesting...it says they can endure the winter in a frozen ice cube! Amazing isn't it?

Wow, you're right Fly, amazing! We had lots of the Isabella caterpillars back in CT, in the fall you'd see them marching across the roads to get into the woods, I always scooped them up and hid them in the leaves to keep them away from the cars. They would curl up into a fuzzy ball. They've been favorites since we were kids. But now I regret the times we would see them on cold days, and we'd hold them in our hands and try to warm them! Sounds like it was the wrong thing to do!
Oh, I think everything needs a little love lol
We used to have them in Illinois too, but I haven't seen any down here...it's probably too hot for them.
Are you going to keep him?
cute little fuzzy bear. hope the moth is pretty also.
brrrr, ice cubes,?,,brrrrr.
Thea,,, we have some good friends in Manning. We go over there during football season. Lovely area.
I am going to over and post a cat that I found last week . It was huge...
Elaine
Hey Elaine! We love it here in Manning! It's very different from where we both grew up in CT, but when my husband retired, we decided we'd had enough of our cold winters! We didn't know a thing about Manning or the area, we just took a chance, and we were lucky.
We're not football folks but we get a kick out of all the friends we've made who LIVE for the football!! I'm taking care of some pets these few days, whose owners are up in Columbia for a big game; they go up in their motorhome and have a grand time! My hubby is a diehard Red Sox fan.
I'm going to go look for your cat photo, have you identified him? Isn't this the greatest fun!! I just love this forum...
