Should crocosmia be cut back in the fall?

Redmond, WA

Should my cocosmia be cut back this fall or do I just leave it alone? This is my first year with this plant.

I would. It looks bad in winter if you don't.

may1969, definetly yes, they have a corm just like a gladiola but much smaller. mine are so healthy, I have 100's that I dig 1/2 of them up in the fall and throw them away. Jim

May - if you ever plan to move/divide them, don't cut back until after the move. It makes it a lot easier when you've got something to hang onto, and the corms won't fall willy-nilly all over the place.
I cut mine back as late as possible - I think it's best to treat them like you would any bulb, letting the top growth die back naturally, then dispensing with the it.
However, I have whacked them early and had no ill effects - they flowered nicely the following year.
