Evergreen and showy fall flowers, fruit. Might be worth a try.

Think I'll put that on my maybe for 2008 list. I'm almost out of room for trees. LOL. I'm surprised, another 2 years and I think I'll have my yard filled up. Well I'll have to wait for everything to grow but it's looking much better.

After reading about it and looking at the pictures I agree it's pretty .. but then I thought .. when all that fruit ripens and starts falling off, it looks like it's gonna be a real mess. You might wish to contact gardeners who already have them and ask what rotting fruit in the hot sun smells like and if it tends to attract unwanted guests like mice & rats.

Looks like an upkeep heavy plant.

I already have fruit trees and so far mess is not a problem. I would think something would grab the fruit if it hits the ground and for that matter I wouldn't mine trying to make wine out of them. I like to tinker with stuff like that. My main reason to grow that would be for fall and winter color but the neighbors would enjoy me making wine out of the fruit. They already think I'm off my rocker. Hehe. I don't want to have to spray them with anything on the other hand. They have to be a hands off tree except for fruit.

Funny you should mention this tree. I was in San Marino, CA last Friday and took a picture of one at the Huntington in their botanical garden. The tree was pretty spectacular.

I'm trying to put some odd or interesting small trees or bushes in. Just for looks. I don't have room for anything huge but 10-12 ft by 10- 12ft is doable in a few places.

Well, I'd give it a try. The fruit looks fake- kind of like the sugared kind you see at Christmas. It would be very different. I'm on the opposite end of Beaufort County from you, I think it might be too cold up here, but I'm tempted
